Job Description:

The Medical Writer works closely with Project Managers, Directors and Vice Presidents to support the accurate, compelling and timely development of medical education content and communication deliverables. This role contributes to translating complex clinical and scientific information into clear, engaging and compliant materials for healthcare professionals (HCPs), clients and other stakeholders.


The Medical Writer possesses a strong scientific foundation and writing skills, with a growing understanding of medical education and communication strategies. They support content development across projects and therapeutic areas while continuing to build expertise and independence.


Responsibilities:

  • Support the development of high-quality medical and scientific content across a range of deliverables, including slide decks, symposia/congress materials, advisory board reports, workshops, manuscripts, abstracts, digital learning tools, newsletters, learning outcomes, meeting agendas, and needs assessments
  • Serve as a contributing writer on assigned projects, ensuring scientific accuracy, clarity and alignment with client objectives and audience needs
  • Conduct literature reviews and summarize data from primary and secondary sources to support evidence-based content development
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including internal team members, vendors and freelancers (e.g., designers, editors, translators) to support project execution
  • Participate in discussions with key opinion leaders (KOLs), subject matter experts and clients to gather insights and incorporate feedback into content
  • Ensure all content aligns with accreditation standards, referencing guidelines, and regulatory/ethical requirements (e.g. CFPC, Royal College, IMC Code)
  • Support proposal and pitch development as needed
  • Manage multiple projects and timelines with guidance from senior team members while maintaining quality and accuracy
  • Assist with document formatting, editing and proofreading to ensure deliverables meet quality standards
  • Support live and virtual events as needed in collaboration with the project team
  • Support internal projects and initiatives, including research and testing of new tools, processes and programs
  • Track and submit time for project-related work for budget tracking purposes
  • Build strong internal relationships and demonstrate the company’s core values – accountable, collaborative, adaptable, respectful, fun

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Ability to translate complex scientific information into clear, engaging and audience-appropriate content
  • Foundational knowledge of medical terminology, clinical research methodology
  • Strong writing, editing, proofing and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to synthesize insights into clear, succinct deliverables
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple projects and deadlines
  • Strong organizational, time management and interpersonal skills
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and quality
  • Proactive mindset with strong problem-solving abilities
  • Proficient with Microsoft 365 Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams)
  • Foundational knowledge of formatting, layout and visually compelling presentation of scientific content
  • Positive attitude, team-oriented, reliable and adaptable with a strong sense of initiative
  • Advanced degree in life sciences (PhD, PharmD, MSc or equivalent)
  • At least one year of experience in medical writing, medical education, healthcare or pharmaceutical environment
  • Available to travel within Canada
  • Ability to work independently and in diverse team environments


Considered an asset

  • Knowledge of the accreditation processes and understanding of the IMC Code of Conduct
  • Experience working with HCPs or clients
  • Experience with project management tools
  • Bilingual in both English and French
  • Experience working with AI platforms
  • Experience with data visualization (Excel graphing)
  • Experience with content management systems (Veeva Vault)
  • Experience with reference software (EndNote, Mendeley, Zotero)
  • Experience working with project management tools (Monday.com)


Hiring Salary Range:

$70,000 to $80,000
