Position: Community Liaison Worker (Summer Student)

Employment Type: Seasonal Full-time, 35 hours per week, total of 8 working weeks

Position Overview:

The Community Liaison Worker (Summer Student) is a front-line community support position at CCSYR. As part of the community engagement team, the summer student will support outreach initiatives, assist with program delivery, and help strengthen connections between CCSYR and the diverse communities we serve across York Region. Working under the guidance of experienced staff, the Communities Liaison Worker will contribute to community-based activities, support client engagement, and assist in enhancing access to programs and services, aligned with CCSYR’s mission and values.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support community outreach initiatives by assisting with engagement activities and connecting with diverse community members and stakeholders,
  • Assist in promoting CCSYR programs and services through community events, information sessions, and outreach activities,
  • Help build and maintain relationships with community organizations, cultural groups, schools, faith-based organizations, and other local partners,
  • Provide general information and referrals to community members regarding available programs and services, under staff supervision,
  • Assist with the planning, coordination, and delivery of workshops, community events, and group activities,
  • Support the collection and entry of program and participant data while maintaining confidentiality and adhering to CCSYR data management standards,
  • Assist in preparing outreach materials, event communications, and basic program reports, when required,
  • Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and other organizational activities to support service delivery.

Skills:

  • Interest in community development, social services, settlement services, or non-profit sector work,
  • Understanding of, and sensitivity to, the needs of diverse newcomer, immigrant, and refugee communities,
  • Understanding of Anti-Oppression and Anti-Racism Frameworks is considered an asset,
  • Strong interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills,
  • Comfort with technology and communication platforms, incl. Microsoft Office and virtual meeting tools,
  • Understanding of and commitment to confidentiality and professional conduct,
  • Understanding and adherence to the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA),
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team,
  • Strong organizational and time management skills,
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment,
  • Confidence in engaging with community members and supporting public-facing events,
  • Previous volunteer, academic, or community involvement in social services or community outreach is considered an asset.

This vacancy is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs grant. In order to be eligible, youth must:

  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period,
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment,
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.

International students and other temporary residents of Canada are not eligible.

Expected Compensation: Gross salary will be $17.60 per hour based on 35 hours per week for 8 working weeks. All payments are subject to the required statutory employee deductions.
