Job descriptionJunior Billing Coordinator PRI Engineering · Kelowna · Entry-level · Corporate Finance
PRI Engineering is hiring a Junior Billing Coordinator to join our finance team in Kelowna. This is an ideal first role for a recent graduate, or someone with 1-2 years of general business experience, who wants to build a career in corporate accounting at a growing engineering consulting firm.
You’ll work alongside our Project Accountant, learning the procurement-to-billing lifecycle from the ground up — issuing purchase orders, supporting subcontractor quotes, and helping our Project Managers get accurate invoices out the door each month. You’ll learn Deltek Vantagepoint (our ERP system) and develop a strong foundation in project accounting that will serve your career for years to come.
We invest in our junior staff. The right candidate isn’t expected to know everything on day one — they’re expected to be curious, detail‑oriented, willing to ask questions, and ready to grow.
What you’ll do Procurement and subcontractor support
Issue purchase orders to subcontractors and vendors, ensuring accurate scope, pricing, and project coding
Support Project Managers in collecting and organizing subcontractor quotes for client proposals and active projects
Track subcontractor commitments through to invoice receipt and onward billing to clients ‑ the full procurement‑to‑billing loop
Billing support and processing
Support the monthly billing cycle, ensuring internal deadlines are met
Generate draft invoices and distribute them to Project Managers for review
Input data corrections, transfers, and adjustments into Deltek under supervision
Prepare final invoice packages for clients, checking that all numbers, formatting, and supporting documentation are correct
Coordinate with Project Managers across the firm's eight technical disciplines to resolve billing questions in a timely manner
Data entry and administration
Set up new projects in Deltek, ensuring contract details, billing terms, and project structure are entered accurately
Maintain organized billing and procurement files for audit and future reference
Help follow up on missing timesheets, expense receipts, or subcontractor invoices required to complete billing
Support month‑end close activities in coordination with the broader finance team
Learning and development
Develop a strong working knowledge of Deltek Vantagepoint
Learn the basics of project accounting, including how to track budgets, work‑in‑progress (WIP), and revenue recognition on engineering projects
Build relationships across the firm — Project Managers, Account Managers, and the senior finance team ‑ that will support your career growth
What we’re looking for Education and experience
Recent graduate with a diploma or degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field — or equivalent experience
0‑2 years of experience in an office environment. Co‑op or internship experience counts.
Skills
Strong Excel skills ‑ comfortable with spreadsheets, formulas, and formatting. We’ll teach you everything else.
High attention to detail and genuine comfort working with numbers
Strong written and verbal communication ‑ you’re not afraid to pick up the phone or email a Project Manager when you need an answer
Curiosity and a willingness to ask questions. The best junior staff at PRI are the ones who ask why, not just what.
Bonus points
Any previous exposure to Deltek, BST, Ajera, Unanet, or other ERP systems
Prior experience in a professional services environment (engineering, architecture, law, accounting)
Working toward a CPA designation ‑ we support continuing education for staff committed to building careers here
