Directed by Public Works Supervisory staff, the successful applicants for this full-time position will perform maintenance activities professionally and efficiently on a variety of Town assets within Town road allowances, parks, cemeteries, drainage systems, and parking lots.
Accountabilities:
Following prescribed methods and established procedures for the maintenance of roads, shoulders, gravel surfaces, bridges, culverts, trees, boulevards, ditches, storm sewer systems, concrete sidewalks, interlocking paving stones, concrete curbs, and traffic control devices, etc.
Following prescribed methods and established procedures for the maintenance of parks and cemeteries, sport fields, turf, flower/shrub beds, splash pads, playgrounds, irrigation systems, and related features and grass cutting
Safely operating and maintaining all-wheel drive front-end loader with computerized load weighing system, wood chipper, single axle vehicles and tractors with attachments, including broom and mower
Operating and maintaining a tandem or single axle snowplow trucks with computerized material spreading devices
Operating a 4x4 pick-up truck with a snowplow and tractors with attachments, including plow and sander
Safely and efficiently clearing snow from roads, cul-de-sacs, cemeteries, sidewalks and parking lots, completing all winter control activities to Town standards
Competently performing all flag person activities in accordance with traffic safety regulations
Operating hand and power tools safely and productively to complete maintenance activities
Providing excellent quality customer service to staff, outside agencies and the public
Interacting positively at all times, both with staff and the public
Maintaining a teamwork approach to all operations
Performing other job-related duties as assigned
Qualifications:
A Secondary School Diploma or equivalent education and experience
Physical ability to meet the requirements of public works activities daily, including being able to lift 20 kilograms consistently
Knowledge of the Town of Halton Hills road systems, parks, and facilities
Experience in winter control operations
Good communication skills, including written, verbal and listening
Knowledge of the proper usage of all personal protective equipment
Municipal work experience and chainsaw certification are considered assets
General understanding of turf grass and horticultural practices, experience in park and/or cemetery maintenance
Knowledge of splash pad, playground and irrigation systems maintenance and inspection practices is considered an asset
Valid Ontario class ‘D’ license with ‘Z’ endorsement and ability to provide a current and acceptable driver’s abstract
A diploma/degree in a related field from an accredited post-secondary institution is considered an asset
Certified Playground Inspector Certification is considered an asset
Specialized courses from Ontario Recreation Facilities Association (ORFA), Ontario Good Roads Association (OGRA) or similar institutions are considered an asset
Hours of Work:
Monday to Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Must be prepared to work shifts, be on standby, and work overtime as required, including weekends and holidays.
Compensation:
$29.08 – Full-time Labourer classification, after successful completion of a 4-month probation period as specified in the Collective Agreement between the Town of Halton Hills and C.U.P.E. Local 73.
