Reporting to the Process Department Manager, this role has overall responsibility to manage and execute the delivery of best practice process plant designs and associated services in designated studies and projects in line with Wood’s organizational objectives and client requirements. Serve as the Process Engineer on projects; planning and carrying out the process engineering activities on technically complex projects. Develop and review process engineering deliverables including material balances, process design criteria, PFDs, P&IDs, operating cost estimates, plant layouts and 3-D models, technical specifications, technical evaluations and provide recommendations for equipment purchases. Develop process circuit design from analysis and interpretation of test-work program results or plant data. Participate in process plant HAZOP reviews. Participate in design reviews (model reviews, ergonomics, maintainability) and manage resolution of action items. Provide metallurgical test work definition, supervision, interpretation and direction. Liaise with client process engineers on design issues and incorporating client requirements in a cost-effective and low-risk manner. Provide on-site support during construction and commissioning, or for operational improvement. Assist in the development of capital and operating cost estimates for metallurgical processes. Prepare and or assist in proposals, design drawings, calculations, specifications and other engineering documentation using standards and/or new methods as required. Coordinate and interface with equipment suppliers and other disciplines to maximize output. Providing technical leadership and expertise within the Process Group. Providing technical guidance and advice to other functional departments and the wider organization where required. Work and communicate with project management team and Process Manager to determine the technical approach for process engineering work at the proposal and study design stages. Assisting the Business Development team in identifying business opportunities, preparing high calibre proposals and participating in client presentations and meetings. Perform or review engineering and design tasks requiring operation of available computer-assisted software and/or equipment that increments work productivity and accuracy. Assure that all work on assigned projects is timely, accurate and high quality. Providing mentorship and guidance to less experienced team members and assist in their professional development. Perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications
Undergraduate Degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or related discipline. Minimum of 15 years’ experience in mineral processing and/or hydrometallurgy with at least 10 years’ experience in a projects or consulting environment. Registered or eligible for registration as a professional engineer in Canada. In depth technical knowledge of process plant design and operation with the ability to deliver best practice plant design. Strong understanding of how the process engineering activities integrate into a complete project. Strong verbal and written communication skills and presentation skills in English. Well-developed analytical, numerical and problem-solving skills. Experience in estimating capital and operating costs for metallurgical processes is required. Sound interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to prepare and deliver presentations and reports. Understanding of strategic and change management, and the ability to participate in these processes. Effective leadership, negotiation and influencing skills. Good organizational and time-management skills. Ability to travel as required. Ability to work independently and in a multi-disciplinary team environment. Experience with process modelling software (JKSimMet, Metsim, SysCAD) is considered an asset. Understanding of common international standards and regulatory authority requirements in the mining and minerals processing sector would be considered an asset.
