Underwriter 16: Salaries typically range from $74,297 to $99,063 annually, based on qualifications and experience, plus a performance‑based incentive.
Location
Export Development Canada operates in a hybrid work environment, with a current requirement of two in‑office days per week, increasing to three days per week in September 2026.
This role can be performed from EDC’s headquarters in Ottawa.
Relocation assistance is available for candidates who meet the eligibility criteria.
Team Overview EDC’s Corporate Lending Canada (CLC) team manages a portfolio of corporate loan assets for domestic and international borrowers. The team seeks a financing professional with experience in corporate loans, credit analysis, structuring, documentation, and transaction management.
Responsibilities
Conduct regular risk analysis and credit reviews of a portfolio of loans and guarantees.
Perform due diligence and assess company credit, industry, country, CSR, and other applicable risks.
Support negotiation of risk mitigants, financial terms and conditions, and establish or validate appropriate transaction pricing in line with market window or consensus guidelines.
Use financial models, including appropriate assumptions, drivers and methodology.
Lead and/or support the credit recommendation process for new loans and credit reviews, obtaining all required approvals.
Review credit documentation in collaboration with legal counsel.
Collaborate with business customers, foreign buyers, financial institutions and other organizations to deliver financial solutions.
Provide support in structuring and delivering financing solutions that may include direct loans, syndicated loan participations, guarantee structures, leasing, etc., to meet the needs of customers across all industry sectors.
Assist the business development teams with ongoing customer service throughout the transaction process.
Qualifications
Applies knowledge of financing and general lending/loan practices to support the delivery of new loans and maintain the existing portfolio.
Assesses and mitigates transaction risks on standard transactions and portfolios.
Leads projection analysis and modelling to support transactions.
Authors credit submissions and formulates pricing analysis reflective of risk and market conditions.
Supports account management in managing customer expectations at various stages of the process.
Determines financial eligibility of customers and borrowers and collaborates with counsel on loan documentation reviews.
Stays knowledgeable of risks and market trends in sectors/regions relevant to the portfolio.
Undergraduate degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance or a related field.
Minimum 2‑5 years’ experience in financial services, with a preference for experience in a corporate lending environment.
Knowledge of structuring/restructuring in corporate lending and/or loan portfolio management.
Strong credit analysis, risk assessment and negotiation skills.
Comfortable developing Excel‑based financial models.
What Will Make You Stand Out
Enrollment in or completion of a professional designation (CFA, CPA).
MBA.
Ability to communicate in both English and French, as well as other key international trading languages.
Knowledge of general business practices and international business issues.
