Job descriptionOverview Aecon, a Canadian leader in infrastructure development, is seeking a Deputy Project Director to lead day‑to‑day executive accountability for Structures and Roadways scopes, supporting the Project Director in delivering projects safely, on schedule, within budget, and aligned with contractual and stakeholder obligations.
Responsibilities
Support the Project Director in managing overall project performance across safety, quality, schedule, cost, and risk.
Lead execution planning and sequencing for complex urban works, including structures, guideways, roadworks, interfaces, and staging.
Drive coordination between construction, engineering, design management, project controls, and procurement teams.
Oversee construction execution for major civil scopes including structures, roadways, utilities coordination, and interface works.
Ensure construction activities are delivered in compliance with design requirements, contract obligations, regulatory requirements, and Aecon standards.
Champion a Safety‑First culture, ensuring safety systems, site leadership, and workforce engagement meet Aecon’s core value of Safety Always.
Support resolution of technical, constructability, and execution challenges in a dense urban environment.
Work closely with Project Controls and Commercial teams to manage cost forecasting, cash flow, and earned value performance.
Identify risks and implement mitigation strategies to protect project outcomes.
Support senior‑level engagement with the Owner, consultants, municipal partners, utilities, and third‑party stakeholders.
Assist in managing interfaces across transit systems, utilities, road authorities, and adjacent developments.
Foster a collaborative, accountable, and results‑oriented team culture aligned with Aecon Leadership Expectations.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent technical discipline.
15+ years in senior construction leadership roles on major infrastructure or transit projects.
Experience delivering complex civil works including structures, roadways, and urban infrastructure projects.
Strong background working in Design‑Build, P3, Alliance, or Joint Venture delivery models.
Solid understanding of commercial management, change control, and project financial controls.
Strong leadership presence with the ability to influence across multidisciplinary teams.
Comfortable operating in complex, fast‑paced, and ambiguous environments.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to engage effectively with senior stakeholders.
Proven ability to build and sustain high‑performing teams.
