The Ontario Catholic School Graduate Expectations our Catholic values, and the Board's Pastoral Plans are foundational to our exemplary approach to teaching and learning in the 21st Century.With a staff of 14,000, the TCDSB is a dynamic school board and is seeking a temporary three (3) year contract position for a Transportation Safety Officer within the Transportation department.All interested applicants are welcome to apply, we are an inclusive employer. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:Reporting to and under the direction of the Planning & Technology Manager, the primary function of this position is to administer and coordinate the safe delivery of student transportation services for the Toronto Student Transportation Group. Provide support to vendors and schools in the oversight and application of the consortium safety programs Monitor carrier operations and routes through GPS, on visits to schools and other related destinations Work with Operations and Planning team members to identify safe school bus locations Perform audits of school bus operators to ensure that driving staff have completed and complied with necessary requirements ie. safety training and criminal background check and safety equipment availability and its proper usage Audit bus routes to ensure drivers follow the proper route and to monitor evacuation simulations and compliance with safety policies Work with Procurement staff to ensure sufficient supply of safety related equipment availableCommunicate the consortium requirements regarding HTA, OHSA, and Municipal standards with the carriersAddress complaints for schools, carriers, parents, and other stakeholders as they pertain to school bus safetyDisseminate safety information to bus operators, staff and other relevant stakeholders Review, analyze, mitigate, report, and implement actions related to accidents and incidents, identify areas of concern and monitor school bus operator compliance with safety protocols Prepare and advise on school travel related issues in and around the school including safe departure plans and organizational issues as they pertain to school bus servicePrepare, monitor, report, package, and purchase supplies for Purple Equals Parent programMonitor safety recognition programs and attend award banquets and other programs as requiredPrepare instructional material and provide training to all staff on safety program(s) and equipment Perform other duties as required or assigned REQUIREMENTS:Minimum 2-year Community College Diploma in Health and Safety or related field of study, or an equivalent combination of education and experienceMinimum two (2) years of safety experience, preferably in the transportation industry In depth knowledge of the Highway Traffic Act and the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and D250 standardsAbility to work well with computer applications/software such as MS Office and the Consortium routing software Strong verbal and written communications and interpersonal skillsStrong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify safety risks and implement corrective actionsMust possess a valid driver's license and car for travel as required within the Greater Toronto Area (eligibility for mileage reimbursement)Knowledge of the Environmental Protection Act, Transportation of Dangerous Good Acts an asset Who We AreOur mission at TCDSB is to inspire learning in every way and support our students and employees.
