Description
This role supports an elderly female client who is moving in with her daughter's family in Oshawa. The client is largely independent — she can dress herself, manage personal hygiene, and get around without a walker — but has early-stage cognitive decline that is gradually progressing. The family works full-time and needs a reliable, engaging companion present during the day while they are out. The home is a larger house with stairs — the client is transitioning from a small one-bedroom apartment and will need time to adjust to the new environment and routine. She enjoys conversation and talking and will benefit greatly from a social, engaging presence. She used to garden and light engagement activities such as puzzles, crafts, and light gardening are likely to resonate with her. Medication reminders are needed during visits. The family has a camera in the home for safety monitoring. The client has an upcoming cataract surgery which may temporarily affect her vision. The schedule may be paused for a period of a few weeks while a family member recovers from surgery — notice will be provided in advance.
Starting schedule: Wednesday & Thursday, 12:30 PM – 4:30 PM (4 hours/visit). The family is looking to start as soon as possible. The schedule may be temporarily paused for a few weeks with advance notice, then resume. Hours may increase over time as needs grow.
