The Role
The Accountant role is primarily responsible for accurate month-end close, maintaining up‑to‑date financial schedules, & reconciliations and ensuring all entries comply with accounting standards. The role supports financial integrity through timely journal postings and balance sheet & GL reconciliations, while also assisting with budgeting, forecasting inputs, and basic variance analysis to support the FP&A function.
This is a hybrid position and will require the individual to work in the AMS office in Toronto Downtown 2 days per week.
What you will do: (Key Accountabilities)
Accounting:
- Lead and execute the full month-end close process, ensuring all activities are completed accurately and within established timelines.
- Prepare, update, and maintain all month-end schedules- including accruals, prepayments, fixed assets, revenue schedules, and departmental expense analyses-ensuring completeness and accuracy prior to close.
- Post month-end journal entries in accordance with applicable accounting standards (e.g., IFRS), ensuring proper documentation and clear audit trails.
- Review posted revenue and expense transactions to verify alignment with accounting policies; identify discrepancies, correct misclassifications, and elevate issues where required.
- Perform detailed reconciliations of general ledger accounts and balance sheet accounts, investigate variances, and ensure reconciling items are cleared promptly.
- Validate the accuracy and completeness of financial information by comparing system balances, subledger reports, and supporting schedules.
- Highlight risks, unusual trends, or anomalies in financial data and collaborate with stakeholders to resolve issues before close deadlines.
- Support the preparation of monthly management reports, ensuring data integrity and consistency with the general ledger.
- Maintain strong internal controls and ensure accounting processes remain compliant with corporate policies, audit requirements, and regulatory standards.
Financial Planning and Forecasting:
- Support the development and execution of the annual budgeting and forecasting process.
Process Improvement:
- Identify opportunities to enhance financial planning processes.
- Implement best practices and automation to improve efficiency.
- Work closely with the FP&A team to ensure alignment and consistency in financial planning and analysis.
- Foster a collaborative and high-performance culture within the team.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to junior team members
You’ll need to demonstrate:
- Proven ability to manage end-to-end accounting activities, including month-end closing, balance sheet ownership, and reconciliations
- Possess advanced finance or accounting education.
- Demonstrated experience delivering management accounting outputs, including variance analysis, accrual reports.
- Proven experience applying revenue recognition standards across multiple clients or business units
- Demonstrated ability to manage audit queries and maintain compliance through accurate documentation and effective financial controls
- Leverage advanced Excel skills to analyze, model, and present financial data effectively

What we offer:
We are committed to pay transparency and fairness. For this role, the initial expected remuneration is CAD 75,240 - CAD 99,000 per year, plus applicable benefits.
