Staff Sergeant

Job Posting

Chief Don MacLean invites your application to the Staff Sergeant promotional routine as outlined in Article 51 of the HRPA Collective Agreement. Staff Sergeants are responsible for the frontline management of programs and services within our community.

Please note the following important details:

Eligibility

  • Applications will be accepted from HRP Sergeants only. Candidates are required to have completed at least one (1) year of service in the Sergeant rank by the closing date of this posting.
  • Candidates must have satisfied the Professional Development requirements as outlined in HRP Department Order #06-15 prior to submitting their application. Those candidates who have not participated in the Henson (Dalhousie) College programs are required to complete the Education and/or Experience Equivalency Request, which is attached. Candidates who have completed the previously required Henson (Dalhousie) College courses must attach the certificates to their resume and cover letter. Any member who is currently completing a Henson (Dalhousie) course must have successfully completed the course and be able to provide all applicable certificates prior to competition completion.
  • Promotion to the Staff Sergeant rank requires that successful candidates must not have any pending or existing disciplinary defaults on their record that would impact their ability to fulfill the duties of a Staff Sergeant. For clarification, employees will not be automatically excluded from the process due to having a disciplinary default. Assessment of any pending or existing disciplinary defaults will be done on an individual basis and may occur at any point in the application and selection process, depending on the nature and status of the disciplinary matter. This assessment may lead to an employee being unqualified for the Staff Sergeant selection process.

Assessment Process

  • The assessment process will include an interview, consisting of a short presentation and behavioural and situational based questions. All steps within the assessment process will reflect the core competencies of the job description.


Final Considerations and Tentative Scheduling Considerations

  • Candidates meeting the minimum assessment requirements, will be moving to the interview stage.
  • Debriefs may be provided to interested applicants following the promotional routine.
  • The salary range for this position is: $136,504. (0-1 year)
