The Product Development Engineering Co-op will work primarily within the Mechanical Engineering Team and in collaboration with the Manufacturing Engineering team to support the development of the SuperTrak linear motion automation platform. The role will support the progression of product development projects through late-stage mechanical and electrical design, into prototyping, testing, and through preparations for manufacturing, all following an established New Product Introduction or ‘NPI’ framework. This role is ideal for the individual who wants experience in a full-scope product development process with the opportunity to be involved in some of the most critical aspects of bringing new and exciting technology products to market.
This role requires up to 10% travel, primarily between ATS facilities within Cambridge, ON. Individuals must be eligible to travel when needed.
Job Responsibilities:
- Support automation product development projects in a multidisciplinary team including software, electrical design, electronics design, mechanical design, and mechanical assembly.
- Create and maintain multiple project plans on an ongoing basis, producing detailed and accurate weekly project status reports.
- Coordinate project timelines and deliverables with all project stakeholders.
- Participate in design reviews and facilitate design changes to improve quality, workability, and reduce cost.
- Assist in developing production processes to meet stated production volumes, including completion of time studies for various production processes.
- Conceptualize, evaluate, and maintain current and proposed plant layouts in DraftSight/AutoCAD.
- Develop equipment, jigs and fixtures list and support costing and procurement efforts.
- Assist in Jigs and Fixture design to support production processes using SolidWorks.
- Work with Engineering and Production Team Leads to build and test prototypes during the product qualification phase.
- Produce and update process documentation in the form of drawings or instructions, using Solidworks, DraftSight, Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Bill of Material and routing creation and maintenance in MRP system.
- Implement Engineering Changes though the Engineering Change Notice (ECN) process.
Education:
- Enrolled in a post-secondary program including Manufacturing, Industrial, Mechanical, Robotics or Mechatronics Engineering.
Required Skills:
- Knowledge of Solidworks, DraftSight, Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.
- Communication and coordination skills using Microsoft Outlook, Teams, and Project.
- An ability to work and communicate effectively in a team environment.
