JOB SUMMARY: DBNC is seeking a Socio-Economic Research and Planning Officer to support a focused summer project within the Community Health Program. The successful candidate will complete a project titled:
DBNC Community Health and Seniors: Needs, Gaps, and Impact Snapshot The purpose of this project is to create a short, data-informed report that helps DBNC better understand community needs, service gaps, and program impact across the Health Promotion, Preventive Care, and Seniors/Caregivers programs. The final deliverable will include a 5–8 page report and one simple Excel dashboard to support program planning, Ontario Health reporting, future grant applications, and internal decision-making.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: - Review existing program data, reports, attendance records, outreach numbers, referral information, and client needs. Review internal program materials related to Community Health, Preventive Care, LDPHM, and Seniors/Caregivers programming. Identify common themes, trends, and recurring needs across programs. Summarize key community needs related to health access, preventive care, social isolation, caregiver support, settlement, income, housing, food security, transportation, and other social determinants of health. Identify service gaps, barriers, and opportunities for program improvement. Create simple charts and tables showing: Clients/participants served Outreach activities Referrals and service connections Common client needs Priority populations Key locations and neighbourhoods served Develop one basic Excel dashboard to support planning and reporting. Prepare a clear 5–8 page final report with findings, key data points, service gaps, program impact, and practical recommendations. Collaborate with program staff to understand available data and program context. Maintain confidentiality when reviewing program and client-related information. Follow all DBNC policies, procedures, and health and safety requirements. Perform other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: - Currently enrolled in or recently completed post-secondary education in social sciences, public health, community development, social work, public policy, planning, sociology, economics, statistics, evaluation, or a related field. Interest in community health, seniors’ services, newcomer supports, social planning, research, evaluation, or non-profit work. Strong written communication and report-writing skills. Ability to collect, organize, and summarize information clearly. Basic data analysis skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, and internet research. Ability to create simple charts, tables, and summaries. Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Respectful, culturally responsive, and comfortable working in a diverse community environment.
KEY PROJECT DELIVERABLES:

- One simple Excel dashboard
- Charts/tables summarizing key data
- Summary of community needs and service gaps
- Five practical recommendations for future planning and funding proposals
