ABOUT THE ROLE
We are a multi-entity organization operating across construction management, concrete forming, and equipment rental. We’re looking for a driven, numbers-focused Project Accountant to support cost control, billing, receivables management, and financial reporting across our businesses with minimal supervision.
WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING
Cost Control & Project Finance
- Monitor project costs against budget, flagging variances and tracking costs outside the original contract scope
- Maintain accurate cost-to-complete estimates and support change order documentation and pricing
- Monitor productivity against budget and schedules
- Track and reconcile equipment rental utilization and costs across projects
Collaboration
- Partner with project managers to review contract terms, milestones, and financial performance fluent in both numbers and project delivery
- Liaise with subcontractors, clients, and internal teams on billing disputes and payment matters
- Attend periodic in-office meetings at our Hamilton, ON office as required
Reporting & WIP
- Prepare and maintain WIP schedules and deferred revenue calculations on a monthly basis
- Produce project-level financial reports for PMs and leadership, including margin analysis and forecasts
- Support month-end and year-end close processes across multiple legal entities
Receivables & Collections
- Actively follow up on outstanding receivables and overdue payments across projects
- Prepare and issue progress billings, holdback releases, and final invoices in line with contract terms
- Follow up on aging AR and escalate collection issues to project managers and senior leadership as needed
WHAT YOU BRING
- Degree in Accounting or related field
- Background in or exposure to project management and confident engaging with PMs on scope, schedule, and cost
- Project accounting experience
- Knowledge of the Construction Act related to project and billing payments and timelines
- Experience with WIP schedules, deferred revenue, and percentage-of-completion accounting
- Experience supporting multiple entities or business units simultaneously
- Highly self-motivated and able to manage priorities and deadlines with minimal oversight
- Strong Excel skills; experience with construction or project accounting software an asset
