Description

Employee Relations & Investigations

  • Receive, assess, and conduct workplace investigations, ensuring compliance with BC employment law and internal policies.
  • Advise leadership on disciplinary actions, performance management, and progressive discipline.
  • Resolve complaints and conflicts fairly, timely, and with cultural awareness.
  • Maintain thorough documentation and records for all employee relations matters.

Unionized Labour Relations

  • Serve as the primary HR contact for unionized employees and collective agreement matters.
  • Manage grievances and advise leaders on interpreting agreements and handling disciplinary matters.
  • Support leadership in collective bargaining preparation and participation.

Recruitment & Onboarding

  • Lead end-to-end recruitment for multiple business units, including contract negotiation.
  • Oversee Temporary Foreign Worker Program and LMIA compliance.
  • Implement equitable hiring practices and structured onboarding programs that accelerate performance and engagement.

Training & Development

  • Design and deliver mandatory training (e.g., bullying and harassment prevention).
  • Facilitate supervisory, performance, and respectful workplace training sessions.
  • Identify skill gaps and recommend targeted development solutions.

Policy & Compliance

  • Draft, maintain, and audit HR policies and employee handbook for legal compliance and operational consistency.

Attendance & Leave Management

  • Establish and manage attendance programs, return-to-work protocols, and modified work accommodations.
  • Ensure sick leave and short-term disability processes align with legislation and agreements.
  • Partner with leadership to address attendance trends proactively and supportively.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years progressive HR experience, ideally with unionized workplace exposure.
  • Post-secondary education in HR, Business Administration, or equivalent experience.
  • CPHR designation or active candidacy preferred.
  • Working knowledge of BC employment law and regulatory compliance.
  • Experience with LMIA and Temporary Foreign Worker Program processes.
  • Proven cultural competency in working with Indigenous communities or similar environments.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, with the ability to produce clear policies, correspondence, and reports.
  • Comfort operating independently across multi-site environments.
  • Experience in hospitality, gaming, retail, food service, environmental services, or natural resources.
  • Familiarity with HR systems (ADP, 7Shifts, POS platforms) and digital HR tools.
  • Knowledge of Northwest BC operational context and community engagement practices
