Position Summary
BCIT’s
School of Construction and the Environment is seeking a
regular, part-time (0.5 FTE) Faculty, Interior Design to teach a variety of courses in the 3rd and 4th year of the CIDA Accredited Bachelor of Interior Design Degree starting in the Fall 2026 term. The instructor may also be required to teach in the 2nd year of the Diploma program as needed. The ideal candidate will be able to bring broad industry experience into the classroom, maintain course curriculum, demonstrate a commitment to teaching excellence and cultivate positive relationships with students. Duties & Responsibilities
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: - Deliver instruction through a variety of activities, including lectures, discussions, labs, and experiential learning
- Develop and maintain a curriculum aligned with course learning outcomes and current industry standards
- Assess student learning fairly and provide timely, constructive feedback
- Facilitate and maintain creative and positive learning environments
- Support student success through academic guidance, mentorship, and professionalism
- Participate in program and school initiatives, including curriculum renewal and accreditation
- Work collectively/collaboratively with the faculty members and Interior Design Program Heads
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:Education and Credentials: - Bachelor Degree in Interior Design preferred (Bachelor in related field considered)
- NCIDQ certificate is required
- Registered Interior Designer (RID) with the Interior Design Institute of BC or eligible for registration preferred
Experience: - Minimum ten years of recent North American industry experience in commercial interior design
- Post-secondary teaching experience is required
- Working knowledge of computer software used in the Interior Design field
Key Competencies: - Effective English language oral and written communication
- Demonstrated ongoing professional development in interior design
- Build and maintain effective and collaborative networks and relationships with students, colleagues and partners
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work within, and develop a collegial environment
