Bell is seeking an accomplished Director to lead its national Data Centre Engineering team—driving the mechanical and electrical design strategy behind Bell’s groundbreaking AI Fabric program. This transformational initiative is positioning Canada as a global leader in Sovereign AI by building a secure, high‑performance coast‑to‑coast compute fabric that will power the next generation of AI innovation. In this consultative executive role, you will guide multidisciplinary engineering teams, influence data centre strategy across the enterprise, and directly engage customers to advance complex solution designs. Your leadership will ensure Bell’s AI‑ready data centre environments remain industry‑leading in reliability, efficiency, scalability, and innovation.
Key Responsibilities
Provide strategic leadership to both Mechanical and Electrical Engineering teams responsible for design, planning, standards development, and operational readiness across all data centre facilities.
Drive the engineering vision for high‑density AI and GPU‑optimised data centres, ensuring alignment with Bell’s national AI Fabric program and long‑term infrastructure roadmap.
Act as a senior consultative engineering advisor during customer engagements, supporting with technical expertise, solution positioning, and complex design discussions.
Build strong customer relationships by articulating Bell’s technical capabilities, understanding customer requirements, and shaping data centre solutions that accelerate the sales cycle.
Oversee the development and continuous refinement of engineering standards, playbooks, and design guidelines for mechanical, electrical, cooling, and power systems.
Collaborate closely with Operations, Construction, Architecture, Network Engineering, and external partners to ensure design integrity, feasibility, and alignment with project goals.
Lead risk assessments, capacity planning, and long‑term growth strategies to support evolving AI and high‑density compute workloads.
Champion innovation in cooling technologies, power distribution, energy efficiency, sustainability, and resiliency.
Provide executive oversight for commissioning, technical evaluations, escalations, and critical incident response as required.
Develop and mentor high‑performing engineering teams, fostering a culture of technical excellence, collaborative problem‑solving, and continuous improvement.
Represent the engineering organization in executive reviews, customer briefings, and strategic planning sessions.
Critical Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering; P.Eng designation strongly preferred.
12‑15+ years of experience in mission‑critical data centre engineering, with at least 5+ years leading multidisciplinary engineering teams.
Demonstrated expertise in high‑density compute environments, advanced cooling strategies, power distribution, redundancy architectures, and data centre capacity planning.
Strong background in customer‑facing engagements, including consultative technical discussions, solution design, and support for presales activities.
Deep understanding of codes and standards relevant to data centre environments (ASHRAE, CSA, NEC/NFPA, Uptime, TIA‑942, etc.).
Exceptional communication, executive presence, and ability to translate complex engineering concepts for both technical and non‑technical audiences.
Ability to lead large‑scale, multisite engineering programs with a strong emphasis on quality, reliability, and innovation.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in large hyperscale or AI‑focused data centre environments.
Demonstrated leadership in developing new engineering capabilities, standards, or national‑scale programs.
Strategic mindset with a strong customer orientation and proven ability to influence senior stakeholders.
Familiarity with emerging technologies such as liquid cooling, immersion cooling, edge data centre deployment, and advanced power management systems.
