Job descriptionGas Liquids Engineering (GLE) is a well-established, privately-owned engineering firm providing EPCM services to the energy industry, including project management, engineering, drafting and design, procurement, construction management and regulatory services. GLE's specialties include natural gas processing, CCUS (carbon capture, utilization and sequestration) and power generation.
We are currently seeking a High Voltage Electrical Engineer to work on a variety of challenging and innovative projects in power generation, carbon capture, substations, transmission lines, natural gas, oil, and fractionation projects.
As a member of our electrical engineering team your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Participate in all project engineering phases for small to large projects, including pre-FEED, FEED, detailed design, and commissioning/start-up.
Lead and support HV electrical design development, coordinating with other disciplines to ensure successful execution and delivery.
Support proposal development, including design narratives, equipment take-offs/estimates, and engineering hour estimates.
Mentor and guide engineers and designers in the development of drawings and project deliverables.
Apply industry best practices, applicable codes, standards, and regulations to the development of engineering deliverables.
Develop, review, and authenticate HV electrical designs, and support interfaces with other disciplines (e.g., civil) as required.
Prepare and maintain design documentation, including design decisions, calculations, power system studies/reports, and technical memoranda.
Specify, evaluate, and support procurement of HV electrical and controls equipment required for a complete design.
Deliver high-quality, technically sound work efficiently and on schedule to maximize client value.
Participate in client and stakeholder meetings and provide technical input as required.
Contribute to Electrical Department growth by developing and improving standards, templates, and tools.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, or a Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology.
P.Eng. or P.L.(Eng.) in good standing with a Canadian engineering regulator (e.g., APEGA, EGBC, APEGS, EGMB).
10+ years of experience on Canadian energy projects, including experience as the project Electrical Lead.
1+ year of experience leading junior and intermediate engineers, technologists, and designers/drafters.
Proficiency with electrical power system analysis tools (e.g., ETAP).
Experience in power generation, transmission, and substations.
Experience designing and interfacing with utility system operators (e.g., AESO, SaskPower) and utility service providers.
Experience with RMS and EMT power system analysis tools (e.g., PSS/E and PSCAD); considered an asset.
Strong understanding of protection and control (P&C) design and coordination, including relay protection schemes, control philosophies, SCADA integration, and interlocking logic.
Prior experience in power generation, oil and gas, or process facilities is an asset.
Understanding of project change management, procurement systems, and related procedures.
Strong analytical and engineering problem-solving skills.
Strong knowledge of applicable industry regulations and requirements.
Excellent organizational, written/verbal communication, and technical skills.
Ability to work directly with client office and field personnel in a flexible, fast-paced environment.
Occasional travel to facilities may be required.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office software.
Pay is commensurate with experience.
