Job descriptionOverview We’re looking for a strategic and forward‑thinking leader to oversee the technology solutions that power our Sobeys store operations. As the Director, Technology Solutions (Store Systems), you’ll guide the full lifecycle of our store systems, drive innovation through emerging technologies, and lead a team focused on delivering reliable, scalable, and user‑centric solutions.
What You’ll Focus On
Product Management - Manage store systems products through their entire lifecycle, from day‑to‑day design, delivery, continual improvement, through to decommissioning.
Product & Service Design - Translate requirements into solutions that meet business objectives and expectations, ensuring solutions are aligned with organization and industry standards.
Product Development & Configuration - Build and configure the solution and maintain it through backlog management, continual improvement, and release management.
Innovation & evolution - Leverage artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies to evolve store systems technologies.
Prioritization & Backlog Management - Ensure backlog management is accurately prioritized and categorized for incidents, requests, enhancements, and projects.
IT Deliverables End‑to‑End Coordination – Coordinate all IT deliverables that need to be part of the end‑to‑end solution (Cloud, Security, Infrastructure, Testing, etc.) and have work packages created by subject‑matter leads, and submitted to the EPMO for the creation of an integrated plan.
User Experience – Understand and account for the end‑user or customer interaction with the product or service, improving experience and minimizing the impact of change.
Quality Assurance & Testing – Lead unit testing and work with the Quality Engineering team on all other types of testing to ensure solutions deployed meet organizational and business standards.
Team Resourcing - Ensure the team has appropriate resourcing for day‑to‑day product delivery, projects, and operational support.
Scrum Master / Sprint Management – Employ an iterative sprint management approach to the backlog through agile and scrum methodologies.
Budget Management & Tracking – Manage your budget as it relates to the yearly budgeting cycle and manage the burn down against the product backlog, prioritization, and approved spend.
What Your Experience And Resume Should Demonstrate
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Business Administration, a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
10+ years of relevant professional experience, including 5+ years in Information Technology or similar, and 3+ years of people leadership.
Experience with store systems and retail technologies is an asset.
Understanding of Generative and Agentic AI technologies and their application in retail.
Proven success delivering high‑quality projects on time and within budget.
Ability to support multiple delivery speeds, from quick‑win innovations to robust systems of record.
Experience in product management, vendor management, large‑scale implementations, major transformations, and system integrations.
Strong industry knowledge and technical expertise, including product lifecycle, SDLC, and familiarity with Project Management, Agile, Scrum, and Waterfall methodologies.
Strong prioritization skills and experience working in high‑pressure environments.
Excellent organizational, analytical, judgment, and decision‑making abilities, with a track record of solving complex problems.
A continuous improvement mindset, with the ability to challenge the status quo and identify opportunities for enhancement.
Ability to motivate teams and make effective decisions efficiently.
Proven ability to influence cross‑functional teams.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
