As the province’s largest energy provider with more than 100 years of knowledge and experience, we proudly deliver renewable energy, natural gas, electricity and propane to 1.3 million customers.

We're actively seeking new talent to join our mission of delivering a stronger energy future in B.C. As one of BC's Top Employers with a diverse team of over 2,800 employees, we are committed to a safe and inclusive culture where each of us can connect, belong, and grow. Join us, and together, let's shape a brighter future for B.C.

Position Overview

You're an inclusive and inspiring leader with a natural ability to create genuine and authentic relationships with communities and organizations. A collaborator at heart with a knack for seeing the big picture, your expertise working with community partners makes you a perfect candidate as our Community and Indigenous Initiatives Manager.

In this role, you'll be responsible for establishing and maintaining effective relationships supporting our Socio-Economic Impact program with municipal, Indigenous and community organizations that are important to our success. You'll also lead the development and execution of our external relations strategy to support the timely delivery of our major capital projects.

In this role, you will:

  • Support inclusive participation of Indigenous, local, and underrepresented groups on our projects through local business development, workforce development, and community investment through our strategic objectives.
  • Negotiate existing and new municipal and Indigenous operating agreements and other economic or mutually beneficial agreements, and lead the development and execution of supporting processes and procedures for tracking and compliance.
  • Work with internal and external stakeholders and rights holders to develop cohesive strategies for customer consultation and regulatory requirements, including focus groups and coordination with local and Indigenous governments, regulatory bodies, customers, and the general public.
  • Learn the various economic and developmental goals of different Indigenous groups that are stakeholders and rights holders in our projects within their respective regions.
  • Work collaboratively with internal and external parties to ensure Indigenous participation in procurement plans for our projects.
  • Develop market research plans and best practices in consultation with Indigenous communities and municipalities to further develop and enhance our Statement of Indigenous principles while maintaining an awareness of all activities that affect business development potential.

What it takes:

  • A bachelor’s degree in business administration, communications or another related discipline from a recognized program.
  • Five (5) years of demonstrated success in Indigenous, community and public relations.
  • Strong experience executing effective stakeholder engagement strategies.
  • Outstanding leadership skills that drive high-performing teams.
  • An ability to build and enhance relationships and partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Exceptional negotiation skills and the ability to facilitate and complete complex agreements.

In this role, you will have the option to participate in a flexible work program, enabling you to work from an approved flex location in British Columbia up to 85 days a year (equivalent to approximately two days a week), subject to business or operational needs.

Our engaging workplace offers a wide range of challenging opportunities, while being safe, inclusive, and diverse. We offer a competitive salary and benefits package, while supporting life-long career development. We also encourage volunteerism and nourish the need to give back to your community.
