JOB OVERVIEW

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Technical Engineer (SMR Services).

Reporting to the Manager Engineering, this position is responsible to support OPG’s New Nuclear Deployment engineering organization in various roles and capacities to advance new nuclear deployment projects, including Small Modular Reactor (SMR) technology, across Canada and abroad.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Prepare scopes of work, calculations, design bills of material and other design documentation related to the development, design, and construction of a nuclear power plant;
• Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to specify design requirements
• Provide technical, strategic, business and commercial advice, guidance, and support to management;
• Leverage commercial capabilities and knowledge in the sustainable energy industry, to provide strategic direction to OPG leadership;
• Author and maintain written documented processes and procedures related to the development, design, and construction of a nuclear power plant;
• Gather input from stakeholder departments and agencies to ensure project requirements are captured and detailed in the project documents;
• Engage in correspondence with various regulatory bodies including the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC);
• Provide active support to field issues and facilitate a positive outcome with Engineer-Procure-Construct (EPC) vendor partners;
• Understand impacts on cost and schedule, and provide support to minimize impacts driving projects;
• Maintain process compliance during project execution.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Applied Science (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Nuclear, Engineering Physics, Chemical, Environmental Engineering/Science);
• Minimum of 2 years of experience with design, construction, commissioning, licensing or operations of capital projects is required
• Experience in the role of Owner’s engineer or Project Engineer for large construction projects, or experience as an EPC vendor contractor.
• Knowledge or experience with nuclear management systems, site evaluation, nuclear safety hazard assessment, correspondence with various regulatory bodies such as the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) preferred
• Knowledge or experience with grid electrical systems or advanced nuclear reactor technologies is preferred
• Experience and ability as a team player to understand and manage the interrelationships of various internal and external groups to facilitate objectives and ensure projects satisfy stakeholder requirements;
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, challenging work environment; demonstrates initiative and self-motivation with a proven ability to deliver results
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, and ability to solve problems and think critically
• Candidate must be a fully licensed engineer in the province of Ontario, or be eligible to be licensed in the Province of Ontario
