Position Description
Surrey Place is seeking a Graphic Designer for a summer position to build hands-on design experience in a fast-paced, real-world environment. In this role, you will apply and adapt your design skills within established brand guidelines to create a variety of visual materials for print and digital use to support brand awareness and conversion objectives. You’ll gain practical experience in layout design, branding, and content creation, building confidence through hands-on work, feedback, and iteration while learning how design supports marketing, communications, and fundraising goals in a nonprofit environment.
You’ll also strengthen and expand your skills in editorial layout, social media design, visual hierarchy, accessibility, and performance-based design-creating high-impact visuals for different audiences and platforms.
Main Responsibilities
The duties of the Graphic Designer are, but not limited to:
- Use Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator to create digital and print assets like brochures, directories, social media posts, etc.
- Assist with editing and formatting documents, including applying consistent typography, layout, and visual hierarchy.
- Develop accessible, usable corporate templates for staff use.
- Collaborate with team members to understand project goals and incorporate feedback.
- Prepare files for print and digital distribution, ensuring materials are clear, engaging, and aligned with brand guidelines.
- Help organize and maintain design files and templates.
- Apply best practices and continue building skills in: Editorial layout and document design, Social media and campaign visuals, Accessibility and readability, Basic performance metrics (e.g., engagement, reach)
Qualifications
- Post-secondary education is preferred.
- Familiarity with Adobe Create Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign)
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Basic understanding of layout, typography, or visual design principles.
- Good communication, teamwork, and leadership skills.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects and meet assigned deadlines.
- Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn.
- Ability to take direction, ask questions and apply feedback.
- Good time management and ability to meet deadlines.
- Interest in nonprofit work or community impact is an asset.
- The successful candidate must provide an acceptable Police Records Check (Vulnerable Sector Screening).
- Fluency in French is considered an asset.

Eligibility for this position is contingent upon meeting the following requirements:
- Must be between 15 and 30 years of age.
- Must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada
