Job description

GREATER SUDBURY POLICE SERVICE
Invites applications for the position of
Permanent Part Time Digital Evidence Processor

Hours of Work: Monday- Friday, Dayshift (some evenings weekends/call out as required)

Position Summary:

Under the supervision of the Digital Evidence Supervisor, the Digital Evidence Processor is responsible for the collection, preservation, handling, redaction and disclosure of records and digital evidence, including multimedia files, such as audio communications, videos, and images, for the purposes of criminal investigations and court disclosure.

Specific Tasks & Responsibilities:

  • Export the multimedia files from the applicable systems, apply redactions to the requested digital evidence and preview the redacted files to ensure accuracy prior to dissemination or disclosure; prepares and discloses requested digital evidence in a timely manner (R vs Jordan).
  • Provide technical assistance to personnel in accessing audio and video data from the computer.
  • Perform daily system checks on all recording equipment to ensure functionality and report all equipment malfunctions and maintenance issues.
  • Ensure digital evidence is retained in accordance with the Retention By-law.
  • Maintain notes concerning the handling and processing of all digital evidence in the task; and maintain strict adherence to confidentiality and chain of custody to ensure the integrity of all digital evidence. Liaise with Investigating Officer and Crown Attorney to prepare specific requests relating to the presentation of technical evidence.
  • Convert proprietary CCTV video using multiple tools to a standard viewable format and maintain the integrity of the video.
  • Liaise with officers regarding discrepancies or issues surrounding requested files; escalate to the Supervisor when direction is required.
  • Ensure a high level of security, confidentiality, integrity and compliance with legislation, procedures, and court orders.
  • Monitor and prioritize incoming request tasks for digital evidence in record management systems.
  • Act as subject matter expert and provides information to support the development of policies, processes, and procedures as needed.
  • Provide guidance and practical training to new and temporary employees, as assigned.
  • May be required to attend court trials and testify about the redaction, accuracy, and continuity of the digital evidence.
  • Work independently on tasks and escalate unusual or non-routine requests to the Supervisor, for clarification and direction.
  • Upon request, attend crime scenes and off-site locations to recover and/or collect and preserve digital evidence and ensure the security and continuity of such evidence for court.
  • Other related duties as may be required or directed.

Qualifications:

  • Successful completion of Secondary School (Grade 12) or equivalent.
  • Experience in dealing with the public.
  • Good knowledge of office procedures and routines required through related experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in computer programs such as Mirosoft Office, Records Management Systems, etc.
  • Ability to become proficient with video camera, closed circuit, and video recording devices.
  • Demonstrated analytical thinking, observation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated aptitude to comprehend and apply legislations, regulations, and procedures.

Assets:

  • Bilingualism (English/French) considered an asset.
  • Working knowledge of Network Audio and Video Recording Systems, Video/Audio/Image redaction, analysis and/or enhancement software.
  • Ontario Forensic Video Analyst’ Association (OFVAA) Membership
  • Certified Forensic Video Analyst Certification (LEVA)

  • Exceptional resiliency skills due to nature of records being processed.
  • Excellent listening skills are required to hear all details when redacting audio files; ability to retain and recall large amounts of technical information.
  • High degree of interpersonal skills to work collaboratively in a team environment to complete assignments, problem solve, and recommend changes to current processes, systems, and procedures.
  • Ability to stay up to date with professional and personal skills development; maintains a commitment to self-improvement with the ability to receive and apply feedback.

Salary:

$31.95-$40.06/hour
