CCIS – Family and Children’s Services (FCS) Division
The Family & Children’s Services division operates on a holistic, strengths‑based philosophy to facilitate the integration of families and children into the community, enhance service provision to newcomers through community resources, strengthen families and the community, and promote the healthy development of children.
Job Summary CCIS, in partnership with Children and Family Services (CFS), is currently offering a Cultural Brokerage Program with the overall objective of increasing collaboration, engagement, and partnerships with culturally diverse communities in Calgary and strengthening community capacity within Calgary’s multicultural communities. To achieve this, CCIS’s Family & Children Services Division is seeking a Cultural Broker who speaks fluent Spanish.
Location:
The position will be in CFS locations across the city.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Act as the liaison between Children and Family Services and immigrant families
Explain the mandate of Children and Family Services, and systems expectations to immigrant families
Facilitate communication and provide cultural interpretation
Providing families with culturally responsive support and follow‑ups
Advise Children and Family Services on cultural practices, immigration challenges, and trauma.
Empower family through appropriate information and emotional support
Support the family with their settlement needs
Connecting families with counselling, parenting, family violence, and other community services
Establish and maintain excellent working relationships with community partners
Enter activities into the database
Prepare progress reports for management
Actively participate in the evaluation of the program
Perform other related duties
Qualifications and Skills
Minimum of an Undergraduate Degree in Social Work or a relevant field
Minimum of 3 years’ experience and\/or education in settlement services
Experience related to child development, family violence, and or abuse would be considered an asset
Lived experience and working knowledge of the settlement and integration process
Established knowledge of community resources and agencies that support newcomer populations
Ability to plan, implement, and evaluate the effectiveness of culturally responsive interventions
Understanding and appreciation of the complex needs of diverse populations
Knowledge of the various ethnocultural and faith groups in Calgary
Effective and dynamic communication and facilitation skills
Experience and ability to collaborate effectively with the community
Excellent organization skills and self‑starting tendencies
May require working after hours
Preference will be given to candidates who speak Spanish
As travel is required, the successful candidate must have a vehicle and a valid driving license
Must have a valid Criminal Record Check report
Must be legally eligible to work in Canada
