What we’re offering
Hourly rate:
Starting rate $27.14 per hour (Level 1 – Direct Service). Regulated rate $30.01 per hour. Registered professionals receive regulated wage differential. External applicants start at Level 1, grid progression to Level 8 ($34.41 per hour non‑regulated, $37.26 per hour regulated). Internal applicants placed per Collective Agreement.
Work hours:
24 hours bi‑weekly; evenings 5 pm‑1 am.
Benefits:
9 % in lieu of benefits; immediate eligibility for optional enrollment in the Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP).
Responsibilities
Complete mental‑health and addiction assessments using crisis management principles, including rapid response to identify psychiatric impact, safety risks, and opportunities for de‑escalation.
Establish a therapeutic relationship to maximize engagement.
Provide short‑term follow‑up support bridging referrals to longer‑term services.
Coordinate and facilitate referrals to internal and external services.
Advocate to facilitate access to services with the objective of remediating immediate crisis.
Engage emergency services when additional intervention is required.
Assess barriers to community living (treatment, transportation, finances, etc.).
Obtain information from relevant sources.
Provide non‑judgmental assessment and care respectful of diversity (culture, race, age, gender identity, sexual orientation, language, beliefs).
Support skill development for self‑advocacy, coping, and healthy interdependence.
Provide health teaching on coping techniques, nutrition, sleep hygiene, and overall well‑being.
Provide 24/7 Reach Out Addiction and Mental Health Crisis Line support via phone, text, and web chat.
Respond to voicemails, establish therapeutic relationships, and address immediate concerns via Reach Out.
Perform short‑term psychotherapeutic intervention within crisis model, maintain calm, privacy, dignity.
Apply harm‑reduction principles to identify and remove risk factors.
Refer for additional assessments and connect individuals with support networks.
Provide follow‑up support or check‑ins as appropriate.
Demonstrate knowledge of community resources and the mental‑health and addiction system.
Build positive working relationships across the service system (CMHA, hospital).
Participate in public education and advocacy.
Act as liaison with caregivers and service providers to coordinate service provision.
Cover crisis programs on any shift: Crisis Assessment Team (CAT), Crisis Centre First Contact (CCFC), Crisis Response Team (CRT), Crisis Stabilization Space (CSS), Reach Out/988.
Qualifications
Post‑secondary education in a relevant field (e.g., social work, psychology) with proof of credentials.
Valid G class driver’s licence.
Current, clear Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) within last six months.
Ability to attend work regularly.
Preferred:
3–5 years of experience in mental health; 2 years in mental‑health crisis intervention; experience with mild‑moderate‑serious mental illnesses; community‑based setting experience; training in crisis intervention (e.g., ASIST); First‑Aid, CPR, WHMIS; bilingual in Canada’s official languages.
