Empower Simcoe is seeking individuals to join our Board of Directors. The Board of Directors provides governance oversight in accordance with relevant laws and regulations. Our Board provides support and guidance to our leadership team, sets the strategic direction, champions growth, and helps to reinforce our Mission, Vision, and Values. This is a volunteer position.

Time Commitment Board members must commit to serving for a 2‑year term and consider serving up to four (4) terms. Members must also be willing to commit approximately 3–4 hours average/month depending on activities (includes Board and Committee meetings, participation in events, meeting preparation and follow up). All individuals applying must be at least 18 years old and must live and/or work in Simcoe County.

Responsibilities

Participation in monthly board meetings.

Participation in development and training opportunities to enhance your skills.

Participation in external community activities and events that contribute to increasing Empower Simcoe's visibility and reputation.

Actively participate in and support fundraising activities for the organization.

Remain informed of the programs and services provided by the organization and publicly support them.

Support the CEO and Board of Director colleagues to oversee our strategic direction, monitor our performance, quality and risk, and ensure sustainability.

Training: Board members participate in an annual board retreat and ongoing training sessions.

Qualifications

At least 18 years old and live and/or work in Simcoe County.

Background in law, marketing, or healthcare (or other diverse skills).

Previous board experience or a desire to gain board experience.

Understanding of not‑for‑profit governance.

Appreciation of the nature, complexity, and needs of people we support and their families.

Community involvement and an interest in giving back.
