The Role
The Associate – Mechanical is a senior leadership role responsible for technical excellence, client relationship management, and the strategic growth of mechanical engineering services within a building-focused consulting engineering practice. This role combines deep technical expertise with leadership, mentorship, and business development responsibilities.
The Associate – Mechanical plays a key role in shaping project strategy, supporting key client accounts, and contributing to the long-term direction of the mechanical discipline and the firm overall.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide senior technical leadership for mechanical building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and energy systems
- Act as Mechanical Engineer of Record on complex or high-profile projects as required
- Lead or support major client relationships and serve as a trusted technical advisor
- Collaborate with Project Managers and Discipline Leads to shape project strategy and delivery
- Support business development activities, including proposal development, client presentations, and pursuit strategies
- Contribute to staffing, resourcing, and mentoring within the mechanical engineering team
- Support recruitment, performance development, and succession planning
- Ensure high standards of technical quality, consistency, and risk management
- Provide oversight on complex design challenges and system selection
- Support sustainable design, energy efficiency, and decarbonization initiatives
- Contribute to firm-wide initiatives, standards development, and continuous improvement
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng) designation
- Typically 12+ years of experience in building services or consulting engineering
- Demonstrated experience leading mechanical design for complex commercial or institutional projects
- Proven experience acting as Mechanical Engineer of Record
- Strong understanding of HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and building energy systems
- Strong client-facing, leadership, and strategic communication skills

- Established client relationships within the building or development sector
- Experience contributing to long-term business planning or growth initiatives
- Experience mentoring senior technical staff and emerging leaders

Certifications
- Must hold a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) designation

Compensation Transparency
- The expected compensation range for this role is $110,000 – $130,000 annually, depending on experience, skills, and qualifications
- Additional compensation elements may include:
