Job Purpose The Director of Corporate Real Estate is responsible for overseeing the planning, construction, maintenance, occupation, and operational efficiency of all company‑owned and company‑run facilities.
Duties and Responsibilities
Develop and execute a F&RE strategic roadmap, multi‑year capital investment plan and department scorecard aligned with corporate objectives.
Establish a leading practice operating and capital expense planning capability, prepare rate application inputs for F&RE, and support regulatory defenses of proposed investments.
Build and maintain a robust financial reporting framework for the F&RE finances.
Oversee the safe operations and maintenance of >1,500 buildings and 50 leased sites, including preventative maintenance programs and emergency response.
Collaborate with internal teams and external partners, such as the International Facilities Management Association, to implement best practices.
Manage the strategic relationship with the Facilities Management outsourcing partner, including governance, financial performance oversight, and contract negotiations.
Lead capital projects delivery for a portfolio of >100 annual projects, providing investment strategies and supporting M&A, workforce planning, and other corporate initiatives.
Oversee lease agreements and negotiations for real estate properties, ensuring legal and regulatory compliance.
Develop and implement workplace strategy and occupancy management, optimizing office space for hybrid and flexible working models.
Lead employee relocation and property tax management services.
Ensure all facilities comply with regulatory, safety, and environmental requirements.
Develop and manage budgets for operations, maintenance and capital projects.
Identify and implement energy efficiency initiatives to reduce costs and environmental impact.
Implement sustainable practices and technologies to reduce the environmental footprint of utility facilities.
Develop and oversee emergency response plans for utility facilities.
Collaborate with regulatory bodies, local communities, First Nations, and ministries to build positive stakeholder relationships.
Provide regular performance reports to senior leadership.
Education & Experience
General university undergraduate degree; facilities management focus is an asset.
Minimum 10 years of leadership experience.
Demonstrated influence and collaboration at all organizational levels.
Strategic vision with a practical roadmap of goals and objectives.
Excellent communication, collaboration and negotiation skills.
Strong understanding of legislation, policies, and procedures.
Strong organizational skills and ability to meet tight deadlines.
Attention to detail.
Experience in a unionized environment is an asset.
Utilities experience required: understanding of building assets as extensions of the grid, investment planning, regulatory considerations and development of regulatory materials.
