Job description

Plains is an industry-leading transportation and midstream provider specializing in transportation, storage, processing and marketing solutions for crude oil. We own an extensive network of pipeline transportation, terminalling, storage and gathering assets in key oil producing basins and transportation corridors and at major market hubs in the United States and Canada. The company is headquartered in Houston, Texas.

We’re on the lookout for passionate self‑starters who thrive in fast‑moving, collaborative, and innovative environments.

Plains is engaged in crude oil gathering, transportation, and marketing activities across Western Canada. We are seeking highly motivated individuals who thrive in a collaborative, dynamic, and entrepreneurial work environment.

We currently has an immediate opening for a Facilities / Pipeline Engineer to join our Operations Engineering Group. The Facilities / Pipeline Engineer will be responsible for providing engineering support for crude oil pipelines, crude storage terminals, and associated facilities within the Swift Current, Regina, and Kerrobert areas. This position will require travelling between offices and crude pipeline and terminal facilities approximately 25% of the time.

The Facilities / Pipeline Engineer will provide technical support to the operation of crude oil pipelines and terminals. We are looking for candidates who thrive in a dynamic environment and are confident in their ability to manage multiple projects and project‑related activities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead or assist projects related to crude oil pipelines, terminal piping systems, storage tanks, and truck loading facilities, including engineering, material specification, procurement, QC requirements, construction drawings, and drawing updates
  • Assist in necessary steps towards the completion of Work Orders
  • Provide technical support for Management of Change (MOC) evaluations
  • Develop, approve, and stamp Engineering Drawings issued for construction for small piping and facility modification projects
  • Develop and recommend projects and related scopes to improve reliability, safety, environmental performance, efficiency, and net revenue
  • Provide project engineering services for small capital projects including managing third‑party engineering firms where required; project scoping; preparing AFEs; drawing and design reviews; process hazard analyses; cost and schedule tracking; construction liaison; commissioning and start‑up support; and overall project management
  • Provide engineering support to the development and execution of large capital pipeline and terminal projects in collaboration with internal project teams
  • Lead pipeline and terminal optimization and reliability improvement activities, including troubleshooting operational issues and identifying cost‑effective solutions
  • Work closely with the Operations Group (field operations, construction, and maintenance), internal technical services teams, and third‑party engineering firms to resolve technical and operational issues
  • Ensure compliance with applicable engineering standards, company specifications, and regulatory requirements related to crude pipelines and terminals
  • Lead and participate in process safety evaluations including HAZOPs, Management of Change reviews, and other risk assessments applicable to pipeline and terminal assets
  • Participate in incident investigations, process upsets, and equipment failure analyses as required
  • Become proficient in applicable piping and pipeline codes and standards (CSA Z662, ASME B31.3, API) and Plains Engineering Specifications
  • Act as an official representative for PCLP’s Certificate of Authorization with APEGS

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or related Engineering discipline is preferred
  • 10+ years of experience in crude oil pipeline, terminal, or facilities engineering within an operations or project environment is preferred
  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng) in good standing or eligible for registration in Saskatchewan
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License in good standing
  • Working knowledge of CSA Z662, ASME B31.3, and applicable regulatory requirements related to crude pipelines and terminals
  • Knowledge of project management processes including scope development, cost estimation, scheduling, and execution
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong computer, organizational, and technical skills
  • Experience supporting crude oil pipeline and terminal operations and maintenance activities
  • Experience in the Canadian midstream crude oil industry including capital project planning and execution
  • Ability to make sound analytical decisions and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Experience driving in rural environments and in inclement weather conditions
  • Ability to work with minimal direct supervision
  • Valid drivers’ license with a clean abstract in the job posting province.
  • Cleared criminal history (background) and satisfactory reference checks.
  • Compliance with the Company’s drug and alcohol policy including pre-employment screening.
  • This position is not eligible for employment-based visa sponsorship. Applicants must be authorized to work in Canada for the duration of their employment
