Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Nuclear Safety Engineer, with a focus on Software Development (Microsoft Framework). Reporting to the Manager, Engineering, this position will provide Reactor Safety Program Support, within the Reactor Safety Engineering team, with a focus on software systems development and management utilizing the Microsoft development stack (C#, WPF, WinForms, XAML, and VBA) and database management systems (e.g. SQL and Microsoft Access). Key Accountabilities
Provide software application development utilizing the Microsoft development stack including C#, WPF, WinForms, XAML, and VBA. Provide database management, development, and design including querying, optimizing, and maintaining structured and unstructured data stores in SQL-based systems such as SQL and Microsoft Access. Provide documentation utilizing Software Engineering best practices principles and to produce clear, maintainable technical documentation in a software development context, drawing upon areas of Software Quality, Software/Computer Architecture, Software Project Management. Work within a nuclear regulatory framework, including CNSC Regulatory documents (e.g. REGDOC-2.6.1 and REGDOC-3.1.1) and CSA Standards (e.g. N290.15), and its application to nuclear power plants. Implement and maintain the Safe Operating Envelope (SOE), including the development, update and use of SOE documents, such as Operating Safety Requirements (OSRs), Instrument Uncertainty Calculations and Compliance Tables. Use of EPRI Risk & Reliability software, including: CATFA, UNCERT, and SYSIMP. Provide technical evaluations and advice, solve problems and coordinate technical work as required, in a number of work areas, in support of the commissioning, operation and maintenance of the nuclear facilities. Qualifications
4-year Bachelor’s Degree in engineering (Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or Electrical Engineering - other engineering disciplines will also be considered). Minimum of 2 years of engineering experience (experience in a nuclear setting preferred, but not required). Experience in software application development with programming experience utilizing the Microsoft development stack, including experience with one or more of the following: C#, WPF, WinForms, XAML, and VBA. Experience in database management, development, design, querying, optimizing, and maintaining structured and unstructured data stores utilizing SQL-based systems such as SQL and Microsoft Access. Experience in Documentation and Software Engineering practices to produce clear, maintainable technical documentation in a software development context, drawing upon areas of Software Quality, Software/Computer Architecture, Software Project Management. Knowledge and experience in any of the following: Deterministic Safety Analysis, Safe Operating Envelope (SOE), Probabilistic Safety Assessments and Reliability Engineering, including the use of EPRI Risk & Reliability Software, would be considered an asset. Experience in working within the nuclear regulatory and licensing framework would be considered an asset. Strong in understanding, executing and following governance and procedures with a questioning and analytical attitude/approach under minimum required supervision. Experience and ability as a team player to understand and manage the interrelationships of various internal and external groups to facilitate objectives and ensure projects satisfy stakeholder requirements. Candidate must be a fully licensed engineer in the province of Ontario, or be eligible to be licensed in the Province of Ontario.
