Position Description

Rehabilitation Services at Surrey Place is seeking an Occupational Therapist to support our Transitional Age Services (individuals ages 16-25 years old) and our Services for Partners and Organizations (SPO). Our SPO will work with communities outside Toronto including Northwestern Ontario to provide virtual and in-person services The successful candidate will report to the Manager, Rehabilitation Services. The Occupational Therapist works as part of an interdisciplinary team to provide occupational therapy services to young adults 16–25-year-olds and to other age ranges in our Services for Partners and Organizations department, to enhance self-care, leisure and productivity skills, and increase independence and quality of life. This position requires an ability to work with individuals ranging from four years of age through to adulthood.

Main Responsibilities

  • Provide assessment, treatment, consultation and/or service planning for individuals with developmental disabilities both on-site, in the community and virtually depending on program needs.
  • Provide educational services to staff and other professionals and agencies/stakeholders to support individuals with autism and/or developmental disabilities
  • Provide clinical supervision and guidance to Occupational Therapy placement students.
  • Participate in programming, service development and evaluation for Occupational Therapy services.
  • Ability to work with communities outside Toronto including Northwestern Ontario to provide virtual and in-person services.
  • Ability to travel to Lac Seul approximately 1 week every 2 months during the school year. All travel expenses will be provided by Surrey Place.
  • Additional tasks as required and assigned

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or equivalent in Occupational Therapy.
  • Member in good standing with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario.
  • One year of related experience working as an Occupational Therapist.
  • Experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities including autism spectrum disorders, and their families/caregivers.
  • Additional training in areas such as augmentative communication and writing aids, mental health, adaptive equipment or working with individuals with FASD considered an asset.
  • Knowledge and experience applying Occupational Therapy framework, philosophy and theory, administration and interpretation of standardized and non-standardized assessments.
  • Experience setting goals and creating/implementing occupational therapy interventions using a mediator (consultative) model and direct service approach based on evidence based best practices.
  • Experience working on an interdisciplinary team and working collaboratively with community service providers is an asset.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
  • A satisfactory Police Records Check (Vulnerable Sector Screening)
  • Fluency in French is considered an asset.
  • A valid Ontario driver’s license Class “G” is considered an asset.
