MacEwan University is seeking a Facilities Planner for a full-time continuing opportunity with our Facilities Project Admin, Infrastructure Planning and Management Department. Reporting to the Senior Facilities Planner, this position will support effective planning and use of campus space by assessing space needs, developing space and furniture layouts, and coordinating planning activities for renovations, relocations, and space changes. Key responsibilities include: Furniture Planning, Moves and Asset Coordination Planning and coordinating furniture requirements for renovations, new construction projects, and operational space requests; Developing detailed furniture layouts and test-fit drawings that integrate with architectural elements such as circulation paths, door swings, windows, power/data locations, and building infrastructure; and Applying furniture planning principles to ensure layouts support functionality, ergonomics, accessibility, and compliance with applicable codes and institutional standards. Facilities Projects and Implementation Support Providing, planning and design input for renovation and construction projects to ensure alignment with campus space planning and furniture standards; Reviewing consultant drawings, test fits, layouts, and functional programs to ensure compliance with planning objectives and institutional guidelines; and Developing layouts, test fits, and planning recommendations for small to medium scale renovation and reconfiguration projects. Space Planning, Programming and Optimization Evaluating space accommodation options including staging, timing, and sequencing for space allocation and relocation projects; Assisting in the development of functional space programs outlining square footage, layout requirements, and operational considerations; and Producing conceptual space plans, block diagrams, restack diagrams, furniture layouts, and test-fit drawings using AutoCAD and other planning tools. Space Needs Assessment and Client Consultation Supporting requests for space changes, expansions, renovations, and related space allocation initiatives across campus; and Collaborating with academic departments, administrative units, and other stakeholders to understand operational space and furniture requirements. Space Data, Drawings and Records Management Maintaining records related to space allocations, renovations, relocations, and other space planning activities; and Maintaining and updating the university’s as-built drawing repository and planning documentation. Skills

You will have: A strong understanding of building codes, accessibility requirements, zoning regulations, and institutional design standards as they relate to space planning and furniture layouts; Knowledge of universal design principles and best practices in space planning, workplace design, and furniture planning; Demonstrated ability to assess space requirements, develop layouts and test-fit plans, and recommend practical solutions that balance operational needs, code compliance, and space efficiency; Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills with the ability to apply sound judgment and provide informed recommendations; Excellent attention to detail when preparing space plans, furniture layouts, drawings, and maintaining space data and facility records; Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively consult with and engage academic departments, administrative units, project teams, and vendors; The ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively within a team environment; Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple planning requests, projects, and priorities simultaneously; Creative and solutions-oriented approach to planning challenges, with the ability to identify opportunities to improve space functionality and utilization; Professionalism, integrity, and ethical conduct while building positive working relationships across the institution; and Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and design software including AutoCAD. Qualifications

A minimum of a Degree in Architecture, Interior Design, related field or a diploma and 3 years of space planning experience within a large and multi-building enterprise, preferable in an educational setting. National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) would be considered an asset. Working knowledge of Computer Aided Facilities Management (CAFM) systems and MS Project would be considered an asset. Experience with SketchUp and Adobe Creative Suite would be considered an asset.
