This assignment will include 0.2 FTE Indigenous Education, 0.4 FTE Learning Support, 0.183 FTE Library/Prep, and 0.218 Music. School District 72 (Campbell River) is located on the east coast of central Vancouver Island, extending north to Sayward and south to Oyster River. The district also includes the outer islands of Read, Cortes, and Quadra. The district serves over 5,600 students in 18 schools with a diverse range of programs that are progressive and responsive to the educational needs and interests of students. Bring your Expertise Relevant university qualifications and valid BC teaching certificate along with recent teaching or practicum experience. Recent experience in a similar role or assignment. A comprehensive understanding of BC's current curriculum, core competencies, big ideas and educational practices. Committed to the craft of teaching, best practices, and standards of professional practice. Excellent interpersonal, collaborative, communicative, and problem-solving skills. Flexible, adaptive, and creative. A commitment to professional development and growth. Preference will be given to candidates who have: A Diploma or Degree in Special Education, with coursework in the following areas: Reading Disabilities, Math Remediation, Exceptional Children, Behavior Interventions, and Assessment and Evaluation with training to use Level B assessment tools. Extensive knowledge and practice in modification and adaptation strategies for various levels of student performance and in designing remediation techniques for students with learning difficulties. Demonstrated philosophy that supports inclusion for students with special needs. The ability to collaboratively develop, implement, and evaluate an IEP in consultation with classroom teachers, parents, students, district personnel and community professionals. A relevant knowledge of and experience in Indigenous Education and working with Indigenous students. A relevant knowledge of and experience in Indigenous histories, cultures, and contemporary subjects.
