Alteo is looking for a CTO for a permanent position based in Montreal.

In a rapidly evolving technological landscape (AI), you will be responsible for the company’s technological vision and will play a key role in identifying opportunities, structuring initiatives, and ensuring their practical implementation within our products.

Responsibilities

Vision, Strategy, and Architecture

• Define and maintain the overall technology strategy, aligned with business objectives and product priorities
• Develop a clear and scalable technology roadmap
• Define architectural principles (scalability, performance, modularity) and ensure consistency across products
• Make key technology decisions (stack, build vs. buy, technical debt)
• Identify and evaluate emerging technologies likely to create a competitive advantage

Innovation and technological transformation

• Structure and lead innovation initiatives, particularly around artificial intelligence, search engines, and natural language processing technologies
• Lead the Lab and ensure the transfer of innovations to product teams
• Prioritize technology investments based on their impact on users and products
• Leverage internal and external experts to deepen expertise in specialized fields

Execution and technological consistency

• Collaborate closely with technical teams to ensure the vision translates into concrete, robust, and maintainable solutions
• Ensure technological consistency across products and shared platforms
• Influence engineering standards and practices across the organization
• Ensure the overall quality of systems (reliability, performance, scalability)

Strategic Collaboration and Governance

• Work closely with the VP of Operations and Products to align technology with product strategy
• Contribute to strategic planning and investment prioritization
• Oversee the technology budget
• Develop technology and academic partnerships
• Represent the technology vision to the executive committee and external stakeholders

Leadership and Influence

• Provide cross-functional leadership to technical teams
• Support team leads in making foundational technology decisions
• Promote a culture of technical excellence, curiosity, and continuous improvement
• Support the organization in adopting new technologies, particularly in AI

Profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent
• 10–15+ years of IT experience
• Experience in technology leadership roles (CTO, R&D Director, Principal Architect, etc.)
• Experience in complex environments (platforms, distributed systems, data products, or SaaS)
• Proven experience in aligning technology, product, and business objectives
• Experience in artificial intelligence (AI, NLP, search engines, information retrieval, etc.) = a significant asset, but not a prerequisite if you have demonstrated your ability to lead major technological transformations and quickly master new domains
• Strategic vision and ability to translate strategic direction into concrete results
• Excellent ability to structure complex initiatives
• Strong technical credibility, without necessarily being a specialist in all fields
• Ability to surround yourself with experts and help them perform at their best
• Influential leadership in a context without strong direct supervision
• Excellent communication and outreach skills

Dans un contexte d’évolution rapide des technologies (IA), vous serez responsable de la vision technologique de la compagnie, et jouerez un rôle clé pour identifier les opportunités, structurer les initiatives et assurer leur mise en œuvre concrète au sein des produits.

Responsabilités

Vision, stratégie et architecture

• Définir et maintenir la stratégie technologique globale, alignée avec les objectifs d’affaires et les priorités produit
• Élaborer une feuille de route technologique claire et évolutive
• Définir les principes d’architecture (scalabilité, performance, modularité) et en assurer la cohérence à l’échelle des produits
• Arbitrer les décisions technologiques structurantes (stack, build vs buy, dette technique)
• Identifier et évaluer les technologies émergentes susceptibles de créer un avantage concurrentiel

Innovation et transformation technologique

• Structurer et piloter les initiatives d’innovation, notamment autour de l’intelligence artificielle, des moteurs de recherche et des technologies de traitement du langage
• Diriger le Lab et assurer le transfert des innovations vers les équipes produits
• Prioriser les investissements technologiques en fonction de leur impact utilisateur et produit
• S’appuyer sur des experts internes et externes pour approfondir les domaines spécialisés

Exécution et cohérence technologique

• Collaborer étroitement avec les équipes techniques pour s’assurer que la vision se traduit en solutions concrètes, robustes et maintenables
• Assurer la cohérence technologique entre les produits et les plateformes communes
• Influencer les standards et pratiques d’ingénierie à l’échelle de l’organisation
• Être garant de la qualité globale des systèmes (fiabilité, performance, scalabilité)

Collaboration stratégique et gouvernance

• Travailler étroitement avec la VP Opérations et Produits pour aligner technologie et stratégie produit
• Contribuer à la planification stratégique et à la priorisation des investissements
• Superviser le budget technologique
• Développer des partenariats technologiques et académiques
• Représenter la vision technologique auprès du comité de direction et des parties prenantes externes

Leadership et influence

• Exercer un leadership transversal auprès des équipes techniques
• Soutenir les chefs d’équipe dans les décisions technologiques structurantes
• Promouvoir une culture d’excellence technique, de curiosité et d’amélioration continue
• Accompagner l’organisation dans l’adoption de nouvelles technologies, notamment en IA

Profil

• Bac en informatique, génie logiciel ou l'équivalent
• 10-15+ années d’expérience en TI
• Expérience dans des rôles de leader technologique (CTO, Directeur R&D, Architecte principal...)
• Expérience dans des environnements complexes (plateformes, systèmes distribués, produits data ou SaaS)
• Expérience démontrée dans l’alignement entre technologie, produit et objectifs d’affaires
• Expérience en intelligence artificielle (IA, NLP, moteurs de recherche, récupération de l’information etc.) = un atout important, mais n’est pas un prérequis si vous avez démontré votre capacité à piloter des transformations technologiques majeures et à vous approprier rapidement de nouveaux domaines
• Vision stratégique et capacité à transformer des orientations en résultats concrets
• Excellente capacité à structurer des initiatives complexes
• Forte crédibilité technique, sans nécessairement être spécialiste de tous les domaines
• Capacité à s’entourer d’experts et à les faire performer
• Leadership d’influence dans un contexte sans encadrement direct fort
• Excellentes compétences en communication et vulgarisation
