Description:
The Division of Cardiology at the Peter Munk Cardiac Centre (PMCC), University Health Network (UHN), Sinai Health System (SHS), a University of Toronto (U of T) academic health science centre, is seeking to recruit a qualified full-time Clinical Academic Cardiologist with expertise in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) to be based at the Toronto General Hospital, 585 University Avenue, Toronto, ON M5G 2N2. The successful candidate would fulfil the academic position description of Clinician Teacher (CT) and must be eligible for academic appointment at the minimum rank of Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto. The anticipated start date is September 1, 2026, or as mutually agreed upon.
The successful candidate will have extensive cardiology fellowship training with a particular focus on HCM complemented by expertise in teaching or education of medical students, postgraduate, or fellowship level. The candidate will have appropriate training or experience or formal training in HCM such that he/she/they will be able to be part of an internationally-recognized clinical program in the diagnosis and clinical care of patients with HCM. The candidate will also be expected to work collaboratively to deliver high quality care to patients with HCM at UHN/SHS. Experience of having worked in an established HCM program and a strong track record of teaching excellence are strong pre-requisites. The successful applicant has demonstrated the capacity for academic activity in the field of Cardiology, and he/she/they is expected to contribute to advancing the scholarship of HCM. Knowledge of genetics of HCM and/or advanced imaging in cardiac MRI may be assets. The successful candidate will also participate in the care of patients in the general cardiology clinic, in addition to their work in the HCM clinic.
The successful candidate will report to the Division Director of Cardiology at UHN/SHS. Candidates must hold an MD degree or equivalent and should have, or be eligible for, certification in Cardiology by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO).
The primary language of work will be English.
Compensation will depend on the amount of clinical work performed (estimated based on fee for service billing), with expected annual earnings in the range of approximately $300,000 for candidates without cardiac MRI reading eligibility, and approximately $350,000 for candidates who are eligible to read cardiac MRI. Total remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications, experience, and clinical workload. Additional sources of income from Alternate Funding Plans (AFPs) and merit awards from the Department of Medicine may be available. Health benefit options and plans are supplied per institutional policy. In addition, the selected candidate may be reimbursed partial start-up costs for office expenses.
