Position Summary Tacora Resources Inc. (Tacora) is an innovative iron ore mining and development company focused on the acquisition and revitalization of iron ore assets. The Senior Project Engineer (Electrical) will lead and oversee the technical input of a wide portfolio of engineering projects, including preliminary scoping, managing consultant workflow, engineering design and quality reviews, as well as the development of technical standards and support for ongoing operations.
Job Responsibilities
Leads and supports the electrical aspects of projects and scopes of work from concept through to commissioning
Creates and issues sketches and designs for in‑field use for any modifications to equipment
Develop and manage project scopes, budgets, schedules, and resources
Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure troubleshooting and recommended solutions are implemented and achieving desired outcomes
Create and review electrical designs, ensuring compliance with relevant engineering codes, standards, and regulations
Conduct feasibility studies, risk assessments, and technical evaluations of design options
Design and specify electrical systems including substations, switchgear, MCCs, power distribution, lighting, and grounding systems
Develop single‑line diagrams, cable schedules, load studies, and protection coordination studies
Evaluate supplier proposals and assist in procurement decisions
Liaise with vendors and manufacturers to ensure design intent and quality requirements are met
Provide on‑site engineering support, including field inspections to resolve site technical issues
Ensure all electrical designs and site activities comply with HSE regulations, promoting a strong safety culture within the engineering and site teams
Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance and leadership
Prepare and present technical reports, progress updates, and project documentation
Identify opportunities for design optimization, cost savings, and innovation
Recommend design modifications to eliminate machine or system malfunctions
Review and approve electrical construction drawings and documents
Other tasks and duties as required
Skills and Qualifications
The candidate must possess a Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering with a minimum of 10 years experience, preferably in the mining sector
The candidate must be registered as a Professional Engineer in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador
Excellent interpersonal, organizational, problem‑solving, and communication skills
