Summary
Responsible for ongoing development, management and delivery of a real‑estate portfolio Energy & Sustainability program.
Accountabilities include business development, client relationship management, employee staffing, communication at an executive level and ongoing financial management.
Additional responsibilities: develop, manage and implement a portfolio‑wide Sustainability & Energy Management Plan.
Work closely with real‑estate executives, energy managers, facility managers, maintenance supervisors, project specialists, finance, contractors, consultants and client teams.
Requires technical expertise in energy and sustainability strategies, energy markets, utility rate structures, energy performance contracts, energy analytics, building operations (including data centers), building conservation and demand management, building energy assessment and energy efficiency measure development, program management from concept to implementation and validation, decarbonization, GHG protocol and Net Zero.
Key Duties & Responsibilities Client Relationship Management
Acts as the primary client interface for the assigned account.
Develops and builds effective relationships with clients and ensures satisfaction.
Manages client expectations regarding scope definition of energy & sustainability services within the master services agreement.
Conducts regular meetings to understand and anticipate needs.
Provides feedback to internal stakeholders on potential offerings for the account.
Recommends and sells additional services based on clients’ needs.
Facilitates collaboration with the BGIS team to propose and deliver innovative solutions.
Delivers on client deliverables, strategies, and execution plans to achieve metrics (energy, water, emissions, waste).
Collaborates with other lines of business to leverage resources and promote E&S solutions.
Manages client perception of E&S Services reflected in customer satisfaction KPIs.
Service Delivery Management
Develops and executes energy and sustainability strategies and programs.
Serves as the client SME for all things Energy and Sustainability.
Develops and implements energy and sustainability programs, business cases (ROI, NPV).
Delivers regular reporting based on the master services agreement, including Power BI dashboards and data accuracy.
Communicates project successes to reinforce value.
Project‑manages and collaborates to ensure SLAs and KPIs are achieved.
Delivers annual plans with the capital plan to achieve targets.
Solicits performance feedback and identifies improvement areas.
People Leadership
Leads a team of Energy & Sustainability staff.
Assigns, prioritizes and monitors work to ensure completion and quality.
Reviews work for completeness and accuracy.
Guides, coaches and trains direct reports.
Provides input for performance reviews.
Business Development Activities
Supports development of new professional services and BGIS capabilities aligned with target segments.
Supports RFP responses and client proposals to secure new business.
Quantifies financial and other benefits attributable to services.
Team Operational Management
Manages staff productivity and work quality through labor planning and inspections.
Enhances team morale and employee development through the BGIS Canada framework.
Optimizes processes and ESG program.
Manages start‑up and close‑out transition processes for new assignments.
Knowledge & Skills
Minimum education: University degree in engineering or science with professional certification (e.g., P. Eng.).
8+ years of related experience.
Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills; comfortable in a lead presentation role.
Strategic thinker with experience in strategy and program development for energy management or sustainability.
Ability to communicate complex technical solutions to executives and non‑technical audiences.
Adaptable and collaborative; works across geographies and teams.
Understanding of the facility management business and the financial role of energy management.
Experience in programmatic execution of energy initiatives.
Knowledge of global energy and sustainability ratings, initiatives and reporting (Scope 1 & 2 GHG, SBTi).
Strong skills in internal reporting systems, benchmarking and target setting.
Good analytical and problem‑solving skills.
Extensive knowledge of Energy Management, Building Automation Systems, HVAC Plant operation.
Project management experience.
Licenses and/or Professional Accreditation
Professional Engineering designation or equivalent.
Energy and sustainability credentials such as CEM, CMVP, LEED are an asset.
This is a regular, full‑time position with a salary range of $115,633 – $144,541 per annum.
