Job descriptionBinnie is seeking a Senior Design Engineer to join our Ports & Industrial Division, where practical engineering leadership meets real‑world impact. From concept through construction, our team delivers integrated project management, design, and construction services for complex port and industrial environments. Our work includes underground utilities, industrial wastewater and pumping systems, mechanical piping and distribution, dust mitigation systems, and essential site infrastructure such as roads, rail, fencing, and on‑site facilities—supporting safe, efficient, and resilient operations for our clients.
This is a full‑time position based at our Burnaby head office near scenic Deer Lake, home to one of Binnie’s largest and most collaborative teams. The role offers a hybrid working environment, balancing in‑office collaboration with flexible work options.
You are an experienced civil design engineer with a proven track record delivering complex infrastructure projects. You bring a strong appreciation for constructability, quality, and client service. Beyond technical excellence, you are a relationship‑builder with established client contacts who is comfortable identifying opportunities, nurturing long‑term partnerships, and helping grow new work fronts within the ports and industrial sector.
You will lead design and production efforts, act as Engineer of Record, and provide technical and professional leadership to Project Managers, designers, technologists, and inspection staff throughout the project lifecycle. You will collaborate closely with division leadership on resourcing, proposal development, and strategic growth, while mentoring emerging technical talent within the team.
Your Role
Lead civil engineering design from conceptual planning through detailed construction drawings
Serve as Engineer of Record, signing and sealing drawings, letters, and reports
Review and approve design calculations, drawings, and technical documentation
Supervise and guide the preparation of complex design deliverables using AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and related tools
Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and direction to engineering and technical staff
Support Project Managers with scope definition, scheduling, and fee proposal development
Undertake quality control and ensure compliance with Binnie’s Organizational Quality Management Program
Leverage existing client relationships and proactively develop new client connections and opportunities
Participate in business development activities, including client meetings, proposals, and pursuits
Contribute to the strategic growth of the Ports & Industrial Division
What You Bring
Minimum 10+ years of progressive experience in port, industrial, and/or municipal infrastructure projects
Degree in Civil Engineering (or related discipline)
Terminals, industrial sites, and port experience is an asset
Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with EGBC or eligible for immediate registration
Demonstrated experience acting as Engineer of Record on complex infrastructure projects
Strong working knowledge of Civil 3D, AutoCAD, and relevant hydraulic or piping analysis software
Proven client management experience, with established industry contacts and trusted relationships
Ability to attract new work, identify opportunities, and support business growth initiatives
Excellent communication, leadership, and time‑management skills
Confidence delivering high‑quality work with minimal supervision

The salary for this position is commensurate with experience; the salary range for this position is $127,775 – $193,300 annually. The final salary for this role may vary based on several factors, including relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.
