Compensation $50,000 per year.
About the role You’ll work directly with the Financial & Operational Controller on everything from day‑to‑day accounting and KPI reporting to tax filings, due diligence, and building internal financial systems. This is a high‑exposure, high‑ownership role — you’ll see the full picture of how a venture studio operates financially and get reps in areas most junior finance roles don’t touch for years.
What you will do Finance & Accounting
Accounting support: journal entries, reconciliations, and month‑end close across multiple entities
Intercompany reconciliations across CAD and USD entities
Review month‑end results and identify and comment on anomalies prior to review with partner leaders
Year‑end preparation and support for external accountants (Grant Thornton)
Reporting & Data
Support data integrity across the portfolio — MRR, EV, KPI tracking, week‑over‑week variance
Support weekly portfolio reporting (Weekend Update) with accurate, clean data
Maintain internal dashboards and financial models (Excel/HTML)
Monitor and create in‑house solutions for tracking financial data across the portfolio
Tax & Compliance
Support tax filing across multiple jurisdictions (Canada federal/provincial, US 1099s)
GST/HST reconciliation and CRA compliance tasks
Prepare and file various provincial and federal remittances including PST, WorkSafe BC, and Employee Health Tax (EHT)
Planning & Analysis
Budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis across MVI and portfolio companies
Due diligence package preparation and review for new investments
Support portfolio companies with onboarding, analysis, general financial questions as needed
Systems & Operations
Maintain and organize the file system (Notion, Google Drive, Xero)
Help manage the finance tool stack: Xero, Float, Dext, Stripe, Plooto
Build out and maintain Notion‑based playbooks, trackers, and process documentation
Identify inefficiencies and propose systems improvements
Studio Operations & General Support
Support new product initiatives and step in to fill operational gaps as the studio scales
Coordinate action items across the portfolio, tracking follow‑ups and ensuring the team stays aligned on priorities
Act as a catch‑all resource for time‑sensitive tasks that fall outside the bandwidth of senior leadership
Assist with scheduling, document preparation, and ad hoc research to keep projects moving
Help keep internal communications and deliverables organized and on track
What we are looking for Degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, or Business — or actively working toward a CPA.
0–2 years of experience in accounting, finance, or a related role
Proficiency in Excel; experience with Xero or similar accounting software is a plus
High attention to detail — you catch errors and care about getting it right
Comfortable working across multiple entities, currencies, and jurisdictions
Self‑starter: you don’t wait to be told what to do next
Curiosity about AI and automation tools — we use them extensively
