Job descriptionJob Description Bantrel is currently seeking a qualified Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) Field Engineer (Industrial Projects) to join our mining team, based out of Leroy, SK. The E&I Field Engineer will be responsible for performing field inspections, participating in construction walk-downs, ensuring construction meets electrical and instrumentation design intent, addressing technical queries and non-conformance reports, and acting as the link between Owner, Engineers of Record, and the construction team.
Hatch and Bantrel have formed the Hatch Bantrel Joint Venture (HBJV) to execute engineering and construction on the BHP Jansen Potash Mine Project in Saskatchewan. This is a short-term assignment.
Key Responsibilities
Completes mandatory mechanical inspections for all infrastructure included within the scope.
Sign applicable check sheets upon completion of field inspection.
Review submittals related to Electrical and Instrumentation (contractor project execution plan, quality plan, Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), inspection records).
Issue quality incident reports.
Manage technical queries (TQs), field change notices (FCNs), field change reports (FCRs), non-conformance reports (NCRs) pertaining to electrical and instrumentation.
Communicate design changes to construction and engineering teams.
Perform electrical and instrumentation field inspections.
Leverage ICC platforms and systems to submit queries, notices, and reports.
Review installed quantities.
Attend construction walk-downs and verify closure of punch items.
Review turnover documentation and confirm minimum maintenance and inspection activities are completed by contractors.
Participate in site risk and control ownership as required.
Generate reports on electrical and instrumentation engineering deliverables.
May involve shaft mining underground work.
Prioritize activities in line with broader objectives.
Participate in weekly contractor quality meeting.
Prepare field sketches for temporary facilities when required.
Coordinate with engineering on constructability and design issues related to electrical discipline, including testing of electrical systems, lighting, high voltage equipment, grounding and DCS systems.
Establish design/field engineering working relationship with Engineer of Record.
Specify electrical criteria for construction of temporary facilities.
Review material receiving reports and warehousing for correct electrical materials.
Coordinate interfaces for electrical data exchange to support construction automation plan.
Coordinate with field supervision and subcontractors to plan/support construction schedules.
Recommend electrical procedures for field supervision.
Additional duties as required.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant work experience.
Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registration in Saskatchewan is an asset.
5–10 years of experience on large-scale capital projects, preferably in mining, potash or industrial environments.
Strong knowledge of quality management systems, ISO standards, ITPs, and auditing processes.
High attention to detail with commitment to quality outcomes, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement.
Ability to quickly learn and apply new systems, standards, and technologies.
Functional knowledge of industry-leading engineering standards and multidisciplinary EPC/EPCM environment, including experience with 3D data-centric platforms.
Working knowledge of integrated project delivery workflows: engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, project controls, health & safety, environment, community and risk management.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, able to engage stakeholders.
Additional Information Short-term assignment.
This is a contract role. The position is not eligible for a relocation subsidy or living-out allowance. The work schedule is a 14‑day On / 7‑day Off rotation with night shift required.
