Job description
Urban Systems is a Canadian employee‑owned interdisciplinary community consulting firm. We are united in our mission to transform communities everywhere into vibrant places where people want to live today, tomorrow, and forever.

At Urban Systems, vibrant communities are everything—including our own work community. Since 1975, we have grown to more than 700 people with 18 offices across Canada. Every day, our purpose‑driven team works closely with our clients and their communities to deliver impactful work. We are proud to work with diverse clients, including Indigenous communities, all levels of government, commercial and residential land developers, and the natural resource sector.

We care for our communities and for our people. It’s our differences that make us exciting, and our shared belief in Urban Systems that binds us together. We’re searching for the creative and passionate and the curious and courageous to join us in creating meaningful and generational change in communities.

Description: Our Peace Region Practice is looking to add a capable, enthusiastic Engineer‑in‑Training to our growing Dawson Creek office! As an Engineer‑in‑Training, you will have the opportunity to work on a wide variety of engineering projects while contributing directly to the growth of our local team and playing a key role in shaping the future of our Dawson Creek presence. We are searching for a curious and solutions‑focused individual who wants to build their career alongside our team of established practitioners. We are excited to find someone who leads with purpose, is motivated to tackle complex problems through a community‑centric approach, and approaches work to be in service of others.

Coupled with the diverse learning and project experience opportunities, do you see yourself excited to contribute to:

Registering, or intending to register, upon eligibility, as an Engineer‑in‑Training with EGBC or an equivalent provincial or territorial association.

Growing our consulting practice with a focus on building relationships with Peace Region Indigenous communities and local governments.

Engaging with our clients to understand their unique challenges, working collaboratively as a team to explore solutions, and developing thoughtful and workable strategies for the design and implementation of municipal infrastructure.

Acting as the client’s representative on‑site during construction to gather information, conduct inspections, and ensure that designs are built to specifications.

Providing accurate and timely input on technical reports, plans, studies, proposals, and presentations that present information in a manner easily understood by a wide variety of audiences.

Project management and budgeting, including securing funding through Indigenous Services Canada processes, developing scopes of work, coordinating sub‑consultants, and learning about budgets.

Conducting technical reviews of engineering drawings, design reports, and related deliverables prepared by clients, internal teams, and subconsultants.

Preparing contract tender documents, including the development of detailed cost estimates.

Developing strong trusting relationships internally to understand our service offerings and the team members you’ll be working with to build commitment to a culture built on trust.

Qualifications: Our ideal candidate is a recent graduate from a civil or environmental engineering program, with up to 3 years of experience, and is registered or intending to register, upon eligibility, as an Engineer‑in‑Training with EGBC or an equivalent provincial or territorial association. The core skills and attributes that will help you to succeed here include:

You are passionate about serving local governments and Indigenous communities on projects that have real impacts in local communities.

You are excited about the opportunity to build a long‑term career living and working in the North!

You enjoy seeking out and building strong relationships and new project opportunities to foster collaboration and growth.

You are proactive, enjoy problem‑solving, and are dedicated to delivering meaningful results.

You possess a strong attention to detail and the ability to continually deliver high‑quality work.

You are able to successfully work on multiple projects at a time and thrive in a self‑directed work environment.

You have excellent oral and written communication skills and can communicate thoughtfully and thoroughly with team members and others.

You possess a valid Class 5 Drivers’ Licence and are willing and able to travel to project sites throughout the Peace Region.

How To Apply: If this describes your background, skills, and attributes, please visit our website for more information and submit your resume and cover letter. If it doesn’t describe you exactly, but you feel you are well suited to this opportunity, we encourage you to apply.

Urban Systems is an equal opportunity employer. We strive to create an inclusive culture for all employees. Our clients come from all walks of life, and so do you. We believe that diversity and unity amongst our teams leads to building vibrant communities.
