Job description
Manager Engineering-Standards & Generation - LONDON, ON Step into a pivotal leadership opportunity as our next Engineering Manager, Standards and Generation, and help shape the future of a modern, reliable electricity distribution system. We are excited to fill a key vacancy within our Engineering Services department and are seeking a dynamic professional ready to drive innovation and excellence. Reporting to the Director of Engineering Services, this role blends business acumen with hands‑on technical leadership guiding the evolution of distribution equipment and material standards while leading seamless, customer‑focused generation connection processes. Working in close partnership with cross‑functional teams, you will champion safe, reliable, and cost‑effective operations, ensure alignment with regulatory requirements and industry best practices, and influence corporate planning through insightful data, performance reporting, and budget leadership.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

Team Leadership:

Supervise and provide technical and administrative direction to the Standards and Generation departments.

Engineering Standards & Generation Management:

Lead the development, review, approval, and continuous improvement of distribution equipment and material standards. Manage the end‑to‑end customer generation connection process, including technical assessments, connection impact studies, approvals, stamping work orders, and commissioning requirements. Ensure, in partnership with Protection & Control, Operations and Regulatory teams, compliant, safe and responsive generation connection processes for customers, distribution generation and distributed energy resource project proponents. Provide technical direction to internal stakeholders regarding the application and interpretation of standards. Coordinate internal staff to complete customer‑driven generation projects in a timely manner to meet OEB expectations and regulatory requirements. Actively participate in external committees/working groups such as ESA’s Utility Advisory Council (UAC), the Utility Standards Forum (USF) and OEB Working groups as applicable. Remain current in new emerging technologies and research ways to analyze and improve system reliability.

Compliance and Quality & Technical Assurance:

Ensure equipment standards and technical documentation are in place and reflect current industry best practices, regulatory requirements and utility needs. Lead and coordinate equipment failure investigations with internal teams and external parties (manufacturers, suppliers, consultants) to determine root causes, perform detailed analysis, recommend and implement corrective actions, and document findings through formal reports, bulletins, presentations, and training. Conduct periodic workplace audits, action items and follow‑ups to ensure compliance with approved standards across field operations and engineering teams. Support annual ESA audits as a technical lead to demonstrate compliance with Ontario Reg. 22/04 Section 6, and collaborate with Purchasing and Logistics to review and approve new products and suppliers to ensure they meet required safety, regulatory, and quality standards. Maintain, update, and communicate standards documentation, specifications, and engineering guidelines. Prepare, review and approve technical documents such as equipment specifications, certified test reports and drawings.

Budget, Reporting & Data Analytics:

Provide input into capital/reliability projects, including the development of business cases, technical reports, and recommendations to support investment decisions. Manage and continuously monitor the department budget and expenditures. Coordinate and review departmental Key Performance Indicators, including collection, reporting and meeting related service level targets. Deliver regular performance updates to senior management, highlighting trends, risks, and mitigation strategies.

Safety:

Ensure personal and direct reports’ adherence to all Occupational Health & Safety Act rules and regulations, IHSA safety rules, London Hydro Safe Work Practices, Environmental Policies and Health and Safety policies. Ensure all incidents, injuries, and hazards are reported and reviewed and that corrective actions are taken. Complete workplace audits, action items and follow‑ups.

Perform other duties related to the above job purpose.
