Employment Type : Part-time Department : Music School Union : Included ( CUPE Local 2497) Salary : $26.27 File # : 24-MS-26 Posting Date : December 30, 2024 Posting Close : January 12, 2025 The incumbent would be taking 7 hours a week of group classes on Mondays 4pm-8pm, Saturdays 10am-1pm. Position Summary Reporting to the Manager, Music School, the Early Childhood Music Teacher is responsible for providing music education to children and youth primarily from the Regent Park, Moss Park and South Cabbagetown community. Duties ad Responsibilities Provide an enjoyable and educational experience for young children (aged 3-5), parent and tot classes (aged 2-4) and parent and baby classes (aged 6 months-24 months). Teach young children the fundamentals of music using singing, percussion instruments and various props, encouraging play with an emphasis on movement, singing, and clapping. Communicate with parents on regular basis. Attend all classes in a punctual manner (i.e., arrive before students). Notify the Music School Director or Manager of any student's learning challenges, physical conditions, or other problems that may be related to violence, illicit drug use, crime, or other factors in their home and neighbourhood environment, as well as problem attendance, etc. Adhere to all agency guidelines and policies. Maintain weekly attendance records of students. Request any necessary teaching materials. Notify the Music School Director / Manager of teaching absences as much in advance as possible. Other duties as required. Qualifications Prior experience teaching young children. Post-secondary education in music. The ability to play one or more instruments is an asset. Early Childhood Music Training is considered an asset. Examples of Training Methods : Orff Schulwerk, Suzuki Method, Dalcrose, Kodaly. Demonstrated ability to engage, communicate, work with, and maintain relationships with people from diverse cultural and social backgrounds. Personal commitment to practicing high standards of professional conduct and ethics. Must be qualified to work in Canada legally for the employer. Able to provide a Vulnerable Sector Screening check with a ‘Clear’ or satisfactory result that meets the operational requirements of the Agency. Must have up-to-date vaccinations against COVID-19 with a vaccine that has been approved for use in Canada.
