Job description

Director, Wealth and Family Office (CPA)

At Baker Tilly, we are invested in the impact you make. We believe exceptional advisors deserve the autonomy, platform, and support to build lasting client relationships and meaningful careers.

Our growing Wealth & Family Officepractice serves High Net Worth (HNW) and Ultra High Net Worth (UHNW) families—primarily business owners, real estate families, and individuals navigating life events - such as separation/divorce, death of a spouse, and liquidity events. We are seeking a Director, Wealth and Family Office Advisory (CPA) to act as a senior relationship leader, trusted advisor, and business builder within our GTA practice.

This is a client-facing, leadership role for a seasoned professional who thrives at the intersection of advisory, tax, and entrepreneurship. As a Director in our Wealth and Family Office practice, you will serve as the primary relationship holder and financial quarterback for a portfolio of complex family relationships. You will own client engagements end-to-end, coordinate integrated advisory solutions across tax and specialist teams, and actively grow a personal book of business through a strong professional network.

This role is ideal for a senior CPA who enjoys deep client relationships, commercial accountability, and long-term advisory impact, with clear runway toward executive visibility and partnership.

Your role:

Primary Relationship Leadership

  • Serve as the primary advisor and relationship owner for HNW and UHNW families.
  • Act as the family’s financial quarterback—integrating tax, accounting, advisory, and external professional advice into a cohesive strategy.
  • Lead discovery, planning, and ongoing advisory conversations across complex personal and corporate matters.

Business Development & Growth

  • Build, manage, and grow a personal book of business with clear revenue milestones.
  • Originate new relationships through a strong GTA-based network of lawyers, private bankers, investment advisors, trustees, and other centres of influence.
  • Lead or co-lead client pitches, proposals, and onboarding.
  • Identify cross‑service opportunities while maintaining a client‑first, advisory-led approach.
  • Represent the firm at targeted industry events and thought‑leadership forums.

Integrated Advisory & Tax Oversight

  • Provide oversight and strategic input across personal, corporate, and trust tax planning engagements in coordination with the firm’s tax group
  • Translate complex tax and structuring issues into practical, client-ready advice.
  • In collaboration with the firm's in-house tax group and financial planners, ensure alignment between tax strategy, financial planning, and each family’s long‑term objectives.
  • Advise families with:
    • Operating businesses and complex corporate structures
    • Significant real estate holdings (commercial, residential, mixed‑use)
    • Liquidity events such as business sales, partial exits, and recapitalizations
  • Coordinate planning before, during, and after major financial transitions.
  • Support succession, estate planning coordination, and intergenerational wealth transfer initiatives.
  • Mentor and develop Managers and Senior Managers within client teams.
  • Contribute to best practices for UHNW relationship management and family office delivery.
  • Support practice development initiatives, internal capability building, and quality standards.

What you bring to the table:

  • CPA designation (Ontario) is required.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in public accounting, family office, or private client advisory.
  • Demonstrated experience advising HNW/UHNW families—particularly business owners and real estate‑focused clients.
  • Strong working knowledge of Canadian private client tax planning concepts.
  • Proven ability to originate, grow, and sustain client relationships.
  • Established professional network within the Greater Toronto Area.
  • Executive presence with discretion and confidence when working with principals, spouses, and next‑generation family members.
  • A commercial mindset balanced with long‑term advisory integrity.

What’s in it for you?

  • Clear career progression and advancement opportunities
  • Ongoing professional development, including paid courses, certification and membership dues

Compensation & Total Rewards

  • Competitive total compensation package including extended health care, dental and group life benefits
  • Matching RRSP plan

Family & Flexibility

  • Parental leave top‑up program to support growing families
  • Generous vacation (4 weeks annually)
  • Personal days
  • Health and wellness spending account
  • Convenient access to virtual healthcare, including online physician consultations when you need it
  • A collaborative, open‑door culture with direct access to leadership
  • Fully stocked kitchen with snacks, coffee and seasonal treats
  • Smart casual dress code (client/day specific)
  • Regular team events and social activities throughout the year

Everyday Support

  • Monthly transit or parking reimbursement
  • Monthly reimbursement for your smart‑phone fees
  • Overtime meal & parking reimbursements

Additional Incentives

  • Client referral, employee referral
  • Vehicle purchase incentives
