Our client in Peel Region, ON is actively looking for a Firmware Engineer Electronics to join their team.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with Engineering Managers and team leads to define user, functional, and technical specifications for new products.
  • Design, develop, and debug embedded firmware, including bootloaders for microcontrollers.
  • Develop system‐level APIs and firmware to meet product requirements.
  • Perform hardware/software integration, prototype testing, and validation.
  • Lead and participate in code reviews and peer design reviews.
  • Support and review hardware test plans and design processes to ensure compliance with quality and regulatory standards.
  • Work closely with Software Development teams to integrate firmware APIs with higher‐level software systems.
  • Debug prototypes, verify specifications, and document test results.
  • Create and execute test plans, reports, and validation documentation.
  • Perform system debugging, root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.
  • Investigate product and process issues and deliver effective technical solutions.
  • Partner with Technical Documentation to develop operator manuals, QC test procedures, and operating documentation.
  • Coordinate with internal and external suppliers during new product development.
  • Provide regular status updates, risks, and mitigation plans to management.
Technical Competencies:
  • Languages: C, C++, Assembly (ARM and related architectures)
  • Embedded Systems: Bootloaders, low‐level drivers, HW bring‐up
  • Debugging & Tools: GDB, logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, DAQ systems
  • Microcontrollers & Peripherals: ADCs, sensors, actuators
  • Communication Protocols: IC, SPI, UART, RS‐
  • Networking & Connectivity: Wi‐Fi, Ethernet, Bluetooth
  • Protocols & APIs: TCP/IP, MQTT, CoAP, REST
  • Version Control: Git, Subversion
  • Development Practices: Test‐Driven Development (TDD), SDLC (Agile & Waterfall)
  • Analysis & Quality: Root Cause Analysis, FMEA, failure mode analysis
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent
  • + years of embedded software development experience using C/C++
  • Proven experience writing bootloaders and working with communication protocols
  • Strong problem‐solving skills with a high attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in fast‐paced environments
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office tools
