What is the opportunity?As part of the Group Risk Management team, the 4-month internship provides an opportunity to work within the Local Market Risk (LMR) team to provide independent and effective monitoring, control, and communications of market risk in Capital Market businesses. This individual will support LMR and collaborate with stakeholders across trading business, risk management and technology to ensure the implementation of and compliance with market risk policies and procedures. The individual will collaborate with internal stakeholders to promote a “Best of Class” risk oversight environment for the market risk associated with Macro Risk Trading business and activities. What will you do? The candidate will collaborate and support the Local Market Risk team on daily coverage of risk oversight including but not limited to the following:

• Provide risk oversight one or more of the businesses under RBC’s Macro trading desks, which includes Rates/FX, Commodities, XVA and MCAD, acting as a key link between trading staff, management and Group Risk Management.

• Oversee and enhance risk control processes: Develop key sensitivity metrics, implement metrics and establish risk reporting; establish and implement appropriate limits to ensure that business is operating within approved policies and limits; identify supplementary risk controls that may be required to manage the risks and exposure as necessary

• Monitor trading activities and exposures to ensure they are within approved policies and limits, and that reports are timely and accurate.

• Promote a greater focus on risk analysis, and provide effective and constructive challenge to the Front Office where appropriate through active dialogue regarding business strategies, risk representation, and limit compliance.

• Provide insights and commentary on key risks and exposures versus market trends and potential events.

• Collaborate and coordinate among different stakeholders to meet enterprise/business line project deliverables. This will include projects related to capital requirements, risk modernization, as well as on-demand ad-hoc requests from internal partners.

• Look for opportunity to automate, improve and standardize processes within the market risk team.

What do you need to succeed?Must-have

• MS in Finance, Economics or a Quantitative subject

• Strong knowledge of market risk concepts (sensitivity analysis, VaR, stress testing etc.)

• In depth knowledge of derivative products, Futures, Options, Swaps.

• Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to condense complex details into narratives suitable for communication with senior risk and business management

• Proficient in Python and SQL; Other strong technology experience with proven track record is a plus.

• Strong collaborator and have a high level of curiosity.

Nice-to-have

• CFA/ FRM / PRA are an asset.

• Leadership experience in large scale projects.

• Proficient in working with complex dataset and building tools with multiple data source for time-series analysis and data visualization.

• Ability to learn and absorb new concepts (in derivative products and in risk systems) quickly and apply new knowledge.

• Be returning back to school after the work term end-date of December 2026 ; or
• If you are not returning back to school (i.e. are graduating in December 2026), you must require the full 4-months work term as a mandatory component to in order to graduate successfully.
