Nature and ScopeInstructors report directly to their applicable coordinator and are located across the province of Saskatchewan in various educational settings. The incumbent instructs SIIT students in the classroom, laboratory or shop environments and assists during consultation hours. As an employee of SIIT, positively promote and create an environment that demonstrates SIIT's vision, mission and mandate.General AccountabilityAs the educational leader in the classroom, the Heavy Equipment Operator Instructor will be responsible for delivering SIIT programs and curricula with the purpose of promoting student success. This program is designed to provide training in the operation of heavy equipment, routine maintenance of machinery and practical field operations of excavating, land clearing, grading and road building as well as safe operating techniques specific to each machine. The HEO program concentrates on hands-on skill development with approximately 80% of the program spent in the field and on the machines, and 20% in the classroom. This position is to organize and implement instructional activities which create a learning environment that guides and provides the greatest opportunity for student success. This includes the following broad range of accountabilities:Deliver courses relating to: safety, maintenance, and a variety of HEO fundamentalsComplete all course-required materials including attendance records and course evaluationsUse appropriate methods of evaluating and recording student progress within set time framesEnsure a positive, diverse and inclusive work and learning environmentAdhere to and promote academic regulations and SIIT policies and proceduresMaintain classroom and shop discipline and, if necessary, recommend action to applicable supervisor regarding student behavior, including formal student disciplinary actionMake recommendations to modify course objectives, course outlines, curriculum and evaluation proceduresRequired Competencies: Flexible & Adaptable; Effective Communication; Relationship Building; Results Oriented; Student Focus; Communication (Instructional); Knowledge & Expertise; TeamworkRequired Qualifications and Experience: Extensive knowledge and work experience in Heavy Equipment Operating. Knowledge of First Nations culture and organizations, and prior experience teaching First Nations Adults are considered assets. An understanding of adult learning theories and principles is considered an asset. First Aid and CPR certification considered an asset. As this position is considered safety sensitive, the incumbent will be subject to testing as per SIIT's Alcohol and Substances policy.Dates of Contract: August 3 - October 22, 2026Location of Contract: Pelican Lake First Nation
