The Northwest Catholic District School Board is a system committed to Catholic Education. The Board serves the communities of Dryden, Fort Frances, Sioux Lookout, Atikokan and Stratton in Northwestern Ontario. The Board operates five elementary schools, serving a total of approximately 1300 students..
As a member of the Administrative Team, the incumbent will work from Sioux Lookout and is responsible for planning and coordinating speech language services and providing direct services to our students by:
• Providing professional consultation services to Board staff regarding assessment and treatment of students and collaborating with the school teams in the development of individual programs for students with communication difficulties.
• Assisting teachers in the development of skills and knowledge related to communication/speech language needs of students.
• Providing therapy for students with mild to moderate articulation delays and language disorders.
• Providing speech and language screening and assessment and referring students with speech and/or language difficulties for therapy with the Speech Assistant.
• Directing and supervising the Speech Assistant implementation of therapy and programs.
• Compiling statistical information and reports to ensure accountability through early on-going identification of and to evaluate Early Learning students.
• Providing home programming according to the communication needs of the student.
• Demonstrating and modelling speech and language therapy techniques for school staff and parents/guardians and monitoring classroom and home programs.
• Liaising with outside agencies providing services to students with communication difficulties.
• Presenting workshops and in-service programs to school staff and parents/guardians as requested to promote early intervention for the development of speech, language and literacy skills for students.
Required Qualifications:
• Completion of a Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology or working towards completion or equivalent.
• Registered with the College of Audiologists and Speech Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO) or eligible to register with CASLPO.
• A solid grounding in the faith and moral principles of Catholic faith.
• Extensive clinical experience working with students in a school or similar setting.
• A demonstrated ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team environment.
• Effective interpersonal, communication, collaboration and problem solving skills.
Salary/Benefits:
• $88,878 to $95,648 (10 month) or $106,654 to $114,778 (12 month), dependent upon experience and qualifications.

Title: Speech Language Pathologist
Reports to: Superintendent of Education
Supervises: Speech Assistants
Location: Sioux Lookout
Position Identification: Administration

Position Summary:
Under the direct supervision of the Superintendent of Education, the Speech Language Pathologist has the overall responsibility for planning and coordinating speech language services, documenting and reporting and providing direct services to our students. The Speech Language Pathologist works collaboratively as part of the Board’s Multi-Disciplinary Team to support students learning, well-being and academic success.
The position has overall system responsibilities, and interacts with all school system staff, federal, provincial, and municipal governments and agencies, and personnel of other school boards.
The incumbent must have a good understanding of the board’s internal structure and of the political climate of the board and its environment and respect the confidential aspects of the position. The incumbent must possess knowledge of Board policies and procedures. Independent action, exercising sound judgement with minimal supervision within Board policies is a requirement of the position. The position requires travel inside and outside of the Board’s jurisdiction, working irregular hours and responding to a varied workload.

Position Responsibilities:
The major responsibilities of this position include direct oversight of speech services that provide intervention, programming, accommodations and modifications to educational plans and consultation for students with speech and/or language difficulties. The Speech Language Pathologist directs, leads and oversees the work the Board’s Speech Assistants.

Position Duties:
Improve outcomes for students who may be at risk of not achieving their educational goals by:
1. Ensuring Catholic Graduate Expectations and the dignity of the student is front and centre.
2. Providing professional consultation services to Board staff regarding assessment and treatment of students and collaborating with the school teams in the development of individual programs for students with communication difficulties.
3. Assisting teacher in the development of skill and knowledge related to communication/speech-language needs of students.
4. Providing therapy for students with mild to moderate articulation delays and language disorders.

7. Attending School Team meetings when requested.
