Position Summary
The Electrician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, repair, and inspection of electrical systems and equipment within municipal facilities and infrastructure. This role ensures compliance with electrical codes, safety regulations, and operational standards while providing technical support for electrical projects and emergency repairs.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, maintain, and repair electrical wiring, lighting systems, and electrical equipment in municipal buildings and facilities.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose electrical issues, identifying problems and implementing solutions to ensure safe operation.
- Ensure all electrical installations comply with the Ontario Electrical Safety Code and municipal standards.
- Inspect electrical systems and components for functionality, safety, and potential hazards, addressing any issues promptly.
- Collaborate with other tradespeople and municipal staff to coordinate electrical work for construction and renovation projects.
- Maintain accurate records of all electrical work performed, including materials used, ongoing maintenance needs, and entries in the ESA CSSL logbook for work conducted throughout the municipality.
- Test and calibrate electrical systems to ensure optimal performance and safety.
- Respond to emergency electrical issues and provide timely repairs to minimize downtime.
- Advise on the proper operation and maintenance of electrical systems and provide guidance to staff as needed.
- Keep tools and equipment in good working order, ensuring compliance with safety standards and regulations.

Education & Certifications
- Certification of Qualification as Electrician - Construction and Maintenance (309A) Skilled Trades Ontario
- Valid Ontario Class “G” driver’s license, with access to a reliable vehicle.
Experience
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a journey-person electrician.
- Experience with installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems, including wiring, lighting, and controls.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of electrical codes, standards, and safety protocols. Proficiency in using electrical tools and equipment.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to diagnose and resolve electrical issues efficiently, ensuring minimal disruption to services.
- Communication: Effective verbal and written communication skills for interaction with other tradespeople, municipal staff, and management.
- Attention to Detail: Ability to ensure work meets strict safety and quality standards, avoiding errors and ensuring compliance with regulations.
- Time Management: Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects while meeting deadlines and safety standards.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting heavy materials, working in confined spaces, and standing for extended periods.
- Safety Awareness: Knowledge of and adherence to all safety standards and regulations related to carpentry and construction work.
Working Conditions
- Work is performed in various municipal buildings and outdoor environments, including construction sites, maintenance areas, and facilities.
- Standard hours of operation, Monday to Friday, with occasional flexibility needed for urgent repairs or project deadlines.
- The role may involve exposure to outdoor conditions and construction-related hazards.
- Cognitive demands include problem-solving and decision-making, particularly when dealing with complex electrical tasks or unexpected repair needs.
- Physical demands include frequent bending, standing, lifting, and operating power tools. Some work will be performed in confined or elevated spaces.
