Job Title: Database Administrator (Oracle & MS SQL Server)

Location: Calgary, AB, Canada
Work Model: Onsite
Experience Required: 6–10 Years

Role Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Database Administrator / Subject Matter Expert (SME) with strong expertise in Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, and PostgreSQL environments.

The role involves managing enterprise database systems, ensuring high availability, performance, security, and disaster recovery across critical production environments. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on DBA experience along with exposure to cloud database platforms and automation practices.

Key Responsibilities

1. Oracle Database Administration

  • Manage and support Oracle database environments
  • Implement and maintain:
    • Data Guard (Physical & Logical standby)
    • Multitenant architecture (CDB/PDB)
    • ASM (Automatic Storage Management)
  • Perform switchover and failover operations
  • Ensure high availability, performance tuning, and database stability

2. Microsoft SQL Server Administration

  • Manage SQL Server environments and ensure optimal performance
  • Configure and support:
    • Always On Availability Groups
    • Failover clustering
  • Perform performance tuning and query optimization
  • Handle backup, restore, and maintenance operations

3. PostgreSQL Administration

  • Manage PostgreSQL databases in production environments
  • Handle replication, patching, and maintenance activities
  • Optimize database performance and ensure reliability

4. High Availability & Disaster Recovery

  • Implement and maintain HA/DR strategies across database platforms
  • Perform backup and recovery using:
    • RMAN (Oracle)
    • Native SQL Server tools
  • Conduct DR drills and ensure business continuity readiness

5. Cloud & Platform Support (Preferred)

  • Work with cloud-based database platforms in:
    • Azure
    • AWS
    • Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI)
  • Support PaaS database environments and migrations

6. Automation & Monitoring

  • Develop automation scripts for database operations
  • Use monitoring tools for performance and health tracking
  • Improve operational efficiency through scripting and automation

Required Skills

  • Strong experience in Oracle Database Administration
  • Expertise in MS SQL Server Administration
  • Experience with PostgreSQL database management
  • Hands-on experience with:
    • High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR)
    • Performance tuning and optimization
    • Backup and recovery strategies
  • Strong troubleshooting and incident management skills

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with cloud platforms (Azure / AWS / OCI)
  • Knowledge of database automation and monitoring tools
  • Scripting experience for operational tasks
  • Exposure to enterprise-scale production environments



Requirements
Experience (Years): 4-6 Essential Skills: • Work with project teams throughout the organization to design, implement, and manage CDN infrastructure using Akamai, to ensure high availability, performance, and scalability for customer facing applications and business processes. • Handle multiple priorities and assignments with excellence and precision. • Be a part of a 24/7/365 organization (some after hours support is expected as part of normal on-call rotation). • Directly support line of business development teams, provide guidance to them on implementation and changes for customer facing applications • Develop and maintain security protocols and measures to protect CDN infrastructure from cyber threats. • Monitor and analyze network performance, identifying and resolving issues to optimize content delivery of critical applications. • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate Akamai CDN solutions with existing systems and applications. • Collaborate with information security teams to implement DDoS protection strategies and other security measures in the CDN. • Provide technical support and guidance to clients and internal teams regarding CDN and security best practices. • Work closely with vendor and professional service teams on delivery related activities and strategy. Qualifications: • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. OR similar work experience. • Strong understanding of network protocols (HTTP/HTTPS, DNS, TCP/IP). • Proven experience as a CDN Engineer or similar role, with a strong focus on cybersecurity. • In-depth knowledge of Content Delivery Network technologies, including caching, load balancing, and content optimization. • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail. • Strong communication and teamwork abilities. • Experience supporting 24/7/365 customer facing applications at enterprise scale. • Awareness and experience with cybersecurity tools and practices, such as firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and encryption. • Proficiency in scripting and automation (e.g., Python, Bash) a plus. • Relevant certifications (e.g., CISSP, CEH) are a plus but not required.
